Hello members,

My self, daughter and wife recently received Canadian citizenship and process for applying Canadian passport (currently hold due to strike). I came to know that I have to surrender Indian citizenship after receiving Canadian passport. My daughter passport is expired on April 5 this month and still i am not getting her Canadian passport.

1) is it valid to surrender expired Indian passport?.
2) If yes then, do i need to pay any penalty charges for submitting expired passport?
3) what is the best course of action in this scenario?

Anyone can shade some lights here

I dont think it matters if the Indian passport is expired. You need to submit last held passport even if it was expired. You can check more details on the govt website(google it).

1) Yes. You can cancel the Indian Passport/surrender the Indian citizenship up to 3 years without any penalty. https://eoi.gov.in/eoisearch/MyPrint.php?0834?001/0005
2) See the link above
3) If you are in Toronto/GTA side, you can check the BLS link: https://www.blsindia-canada.com/toronto-jurisdiction/surrender-of-india-citizenship.php. For other provinces, use the relevant BLS link: https://www.blsindia-canada.com/

Please note that cancel the Indian Passport/surrender the Indian citizenship you will need Canadian passport
