Hi Everybody. My story is 20 years old. My family and I were granted our PR in 1996. We lived in Canada for 3 years but had to return to South Africa due to family obligations. For the last 20 years we have been misinformed by CIC and advised to submit various application forms. We have returned to Canada on numerous occasions and been issued with Visitors visas as well as my daughter been granted a study visa. At no point were we told we still had PR and it has cost us a small fortune in visa fees as well as international university fees. We have never renounced our PR and have informed CIC that it was our intention to return to Canada from as far back as 2003. My daughter and her husband applied for and was granted PR January last year. Once again they paid fees when she was already a Permanent Resident. Now my husband and I applied for a visa to visit my daughter and IRCC has requested an application to voluntarily renounce our PR. My question is, is there another option I have to enter Canada for a visit. It will take my husband and I at least a year to liquidate assets and wrap up our business in South Africa before we can move back to Canada permanently.
