hey can someone help with IMM 0008 ? ???

ques 4 - immigration office requested for processing this application ..

instruction guide says "Indicate the name of the Immigration Office which serves:

your country of nationality, or
the country in which you are residing, provided that you have been lawfully admitted to that country for at least one (1) year.
Note: Do not select the Centralized Intake Office (CIO) as the immigration office requested to process your application. Although you may be required to submit your application to the CIO, you must indicate the name of an appropriate visa office using the criteria above."

but then i can't find the office info to be filled in here

This is actually simple.

If you are currently in Canada and have a visa to stay/work for at least 1 year - then you have to select "CPC in Ottawa".

If you are outside Canada then it will be the following:

A. Closest Visa Application Centre of the Country of your nationality (e.g. Qatari National will have to select ABu Dhabi Visa Application Centre or Spanish National will have to select London Visa Application Centre in the UK).

or

B. Closest Visa Application Centres where you are currently a resident (provided you are lawfully admitted to reside for at least one year). Example: Saudi National staying in Qatar will have to select ABU DHABI Visa Application Centre or American National Staying in Spain will have to select London-UK Visa Application Centre.

thanks cee12345 !!!

yea actually, the link did not specify about canadian visa offices, so i was a bit confused.. but thanks for your quick response !!! greatly appreciated !!

even the link you provided cee12345, does not specifically say that Canadian visa office should be cpc - ottawa...

^ The offices inside Canada are listed at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/index.asp

This specifies CPC-Ottawa as the office responsible for permanent residence applications from within Canada.

The prevailing wisdom is that all CEC applications are processed at CPC-Ottawa, and therefore that the immigration office you choose has no practical effect. But it's best to follow the instruction guide anyway.

Interesting point - If you are currently in Canada and have a visa to stay/work for at least 1 year - then you have to select "CPC in Ottawa".

Does that mean that if my have a visa left for 6 months or even lets say I am in implied status and dont know if my visa would be approved or not should not use "CPC in Ottawa"

Please throw some light on this...

Well let's go back to the instruction guide (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5609ETOC.asp):

Indicate the name of the Immigration Office which serves:

  • your country of nationality, or
  • the country in which you are residing, provided that you have been lawfully admitted to that country for at least one (1) year.

Note here that it says "have been admitted", not "will be admitted".

Again, the choice of immigration office won't affect where the application is processed. It might affect where the passport request comes from when the application is approved (does anyone who applied from their home country have an answer on this?)

hmmmm,,, sometimes instructions are too confusing,,, :'(

Okay, how about this - where do you expect to be living when the CEC application is approved? (perhaps 9-12 months after you apply)

Choose an office on that basis.

In either case, if you're unsure, you can choose the immigration office that serves your home country.

It actually says "provided you are lawfully admitted to stay at least 1 year" - meaning if you have say a visa/work permit from Jan-1-2014 until December-31-2014 and you want to apply in Canada then you can apply even if today is July-4-2014. It says "lawfully admitted".
Your visa for a year itself allows you to file for your visa in Canada regardless of the months remaining or months used.

I hope that helps.

hmmm,,, but it doesn't specify when you were admitted,, as if we have ever lawfully entered (say back in 2010 and then got our visa extended until 2014) , we can type in canadian visa office.

You cannot be a resident of a country if you are not "residing" in a country.
So having a visa alone will not get you eligible to apply.

So, if you were in Canada since 2010 and got extended until end of say 2014 then it is really up to you.
If you want this processed in Canada then you're eligible but you have to understand the timeline.
You have to look at whether you will still be in Canada by the time of PPR.
