I'm really suffering here in Sierra Leone I don't even have a family member left they all died during the war in Sierra Leone 19yrs back.

There is no way to apply for asylum from Sierra Leone. You need to either have a TRV to come to Canada and claim or leave Sierra Leone for another country where you can claim with the UNHCR. Having no family left and economic hardship are not reasons for asylum.

Hey are you Sierra Leonean?

Fire away. There are lots of people here that have knowledge and opinions. Remember, they are only opinions and virtually no one here has the legal expertise nor expertise to fully navigate IRCC. But we can give pretty reasonable guidance.

Thank you. First am am a single refugee applicant. I applied at Etobicoke last year July 2018. I still have not received any other date yet since my previous has been canceled. Is this normal.

Yes. The backlog for the initial interview is out to about 15-18 months from my understanding. Given you are single, probably less urgency (in IRCCs mind) to process your claim. I would expect you’ll hear something about an interview in the next few months.

Hey sorry these may be an unrealistic question to ask, but do you know approximately how many hearings are held per day at the board?

Impossible to say accurately. Too many variables to calculate. If I was to guess, I’d say about 100/day across the country. 60,000ish current claims/20ish months=100.

Thats a better number than expected considering how long the hearing approximately takes to the time the board closes for the day. Also do you think that apart from the expedited countries some countries are processed faster than others. example like since am from Sierra Leone and there aren’t really a lot of claims from there usually, I am not considered urgent (in the IRCC eyes)?
