Hello folks! So, I want to be a police officer, but for that I would need to become a permanent resident. To become a permanent resident I have strongly considered the experience class, federal skilled workers and provincial nominee programs. I have found some college programs related to safety, security and investigations in Ontario, Manitoba and Alberta but I don't know if working as a security guard I would be qualified to apply for any of these immigration programs. Please, help! Do you know which immigration programs I could apply having work experience in security? or having a college diploma in safety, security and investigations could I work with any occupation which would qualify me for any of these immigration programs?

What is your current status?

Unfortunately for you, security guard is not considered a skilled occupation, see http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2011/Profile.aspx?val=6&val1=6541 so is not particularly good for immigration. You need to find a skilled job.

I was checking the RCMP website for someone else the other day and it did strike me that it said you must be a Canadian citizen to become a police officer. However, you might be able to become an immigration officer with a PR. Of course you have to get the PR first though.

If you get a DEC in police technology in Quebec, you can apply for PR under the PEQ after that.

You'll need to speak French well, though, and have good grades at the high school level.

That's good to know.

Wait a second guys: whats PR?

Are you sure the permanent residency card is no enough to work as a police officer? Because OPP requires permanent residency or citizenship.

RCMP requires citizenship. Ontario has their own police force and it seems that they will also allow applications from PR's.
