It's like a tangible proof of Citizenship so it feels good. I had the same feeling even though I still just use my NEXUS card to enter Canada.

Technical correction guys, passport is NOT a tangible proof of citizenship. Certificate of Citizenship sure is.

But can't deny the joy to hold the passport in your hands!!

how often is Certificate of Citizenship required in daily life. If this is a very important piece of document what happens if it gets lost. Does CIC keeps record of its citizens?
One advice is it good to keep Certificate of Citizenship in bank locker?

I agree. Keep it safe. You don't need to show it to anyone. Keep it safe along with other important docs like the SIN information.

Think about it... what document do most people around the world think of when they think of a citizenship document?

I agree with you. The common perception of citizenship is incorrect and is not supported by law. People think of citizenship and they think passport.

If you have seen the case of Deepan Budlakoti, he had passport for almost 20 years. Now the govt comes and says that the passport was issued in error, and he is not a citizen.

Only and only proof of citizenship, is the certificate of citizenship. Passport is a derived benefit from citizenship and not proof of it.

So every time we renew passport we need to provide citizenship certificate. In that case we should get wallet card like PR instead of A4 size paper worried if it does not get damaged. Atleast get laminated paper

The back of the certificate says in bold, "Please do not laminate". The certificate has 2 bar codes, and laminating could destroy them.

If you leave the certificate in the protective plastic that it came with, and keep it in a safe place(like you do with your PR card, COPR, passport, etc), it should not get "damaged".

Thanks

i was just thinking if they use high quality paper glossy more like polymer which is tear and water proof.

Landing papers are more thin and damagable even the ink fades away how can that be used at age 65 for pension. If its not readable then what value it will add

CIC has a copy of these status documents, which you can request - forms are found on CIC's website.

Also, you can make certified copies now while they are still legible.
