Hi! I applied for Refugee claim few years ago and I recently got PR through Family class sponsorship and I withdrew my claim, I didn’t have hearing or anything. When I applied for refugee, IRB seized my passport in Vancouver region. Now I have to go home cause my mother is really sick and admitted in hospital but after calling Ircc so many times I haven’t received any response how to get my passport back? Can someone please guide me how can i receive my passport back asap with the given circumstances.

Hello , I went to Etobicoke office and they gave me phone number to call it.
An automated voicemail answers the call, and you are asked to leave a message with your information, with a promise of a response within 5 business days. However, no one has contacted me yet. It’s been 7 days. What about u?

According to me best to raise the web form or visit CBSA office directly.

Did it include the holiday? Would wait until next week when more will be back to work.

Hi. Any updates? Were you able to get your passport back? Could you please share that phone number?

Hi,
I have a similar question if anybody could help we are struggling with this one so much.
My husband's applied for refugee which got refused 2 years back and his passport has also expired in 2022, but his passport is with IRCC as he once applied for refugee which is refused.
We then got married and he applied for spousal sponsorship which got approved and we have received his COPR.
We now have to travel outside Canada. We are not sure what to apply. If we need to renew his indian passport by getting the old passport back from IRCC. if yes how do we get the old passport back.
Or we need to apply for certificate of identity or RTD.
We are so confused we have received the COPR but not the PR card yet.

  • There is a form: the “Notice of Withdrawal of a Claim for Refugee Protection” https://www.irb-cisr.gc.ca/en/forms/Documents/RpdSpr2401e.pdf
  • The form indicates you must complete it for each family member, if applicable.
  • You must send it to the IRB office in the region handling your file (by email, fax, mail, web form or in person).
  • If it was refused, and the file closed, then “withdrawing” may not be applicable — you may simply request the passport back.+
  • Withdrawing could trigger removal orders and other legal consequences, get legal advice first.

* Use the IRCC web form: choose “Update or ask about your application” → “Other” → Explain clearly: you need your original national passport back so you can renew it with your home country (India) and for upcoming travel.

* It may help to explicitly state: “I am no longer relying on the refugee claim (which has been refused) and I now have approved spousal sponsorship and COPR, therefore I need my passport returned to renew it and for travel.”

Good Luck
