How long does it normally take to receive an answer from CIC after submitting the spouse sponsorship

We have been checking out mail, our email, spam folders... My husband and I are wondering how long it should take in order to receive a "confirming that the application has been accepted for processing"?

Also, we applied for the open work permit under the family class sponsorship, but we have yet to receive any information... If we don't receive any information before the 30-days prior to the end of his Tourist Visa, should le apply for the extension of his holiday visa?

6-8 weeks for AOR
 
My applications were sent in July and I didn't receive an email that it was received until September. I am unable to find my work permit app at all online. I don't know if it's correct, but I am told you can't find out the status of your open work permit. Not sure what you should do in your case. I've seen others in here where the process was much quicker than mine. I'm in Nova Scotia.

You can phone them regarding your application.

No harm for extension of your visitor visa.
While applying PR and SOWP you have to maintain your legal status in Canada. I have been processing my 2nd extension visitor visa and a week later i got my SOWP so automatically my TRV processing cancelled.

Is this correct? If so that scares me. My lawyer told me that once you apply for your PR (I'm in Canada being sponsored by my husband) it's okay to let your visitor's visa run out because it's "implied status." I'm worried he was wrong. Any clarification from folks would be great. Thank you!

Yes u are on implied status but wt if ur app gets returned?jst apply to extend ur TRV

Before the expert give a proper answer.
AOR will come to your lawyer, not direct to you.
I also sponsored by my Canadian husband

Agreed with @MaameD
Somehow why dont you process your application by yourself?.. i was using lawyer but we fired her bcs very slow and spent more amount. This forum will help you anytime and free :)
I received my PR after a year- on this mid October :)

My app did get returned once but we got resubmitted 2 days before my visa was expired! Since the status is now that the app is received, do I have implied status? Thank you for your help!

Yes and no
Yes if you get Acknowledge of Receipt Letter from IRCC that they will start to process your application (you should ask your lawyer bcs every communication from IRCC will come to your lawyer)
No if your application get return to you again.

If you received AOR and applied for the OWP, you have implied status.

AOR is the email that comes 6-8 weeks after you apply confirming they have accepted your application to be processed.
