Kristin I just read a few of your posts and wanted to let you know that our situations are rather similar your just ahead of the game so I am sure I might beg for advice.

I met my boyfriend in Kenya in Dec 2009 - I only got to be with him for two weeks so I flew back for a month in Feb 2010 -- started to fall in love and went back for 6months from May 2010 - to Nov 2010. Got denied a student visa - went back in April 2011 - and plans to get married in Sep 2011 in Kenya -

Did you get a letter of non-impediment to get married in Kenya? How did you get it?

Wow how come this is the first time i see this thread! :o I LOVE IT! :P lol so here goes mine!

In 2004, i was 16, i went for spring break to Miami with some friends and my now husband was living there with his family (he is from Argentina). One day my friend started yelling at cute guys on the parking so we finally went to talk with them.. and on the night we decided to meet our gang and their gang! So basically thats how we met! I was there only for a week so we spent every night together til like 6 am going everywhere around Miami! At the end of the week, i was coming back but i left him my phone number and email adress "in case" but i never thought he would call me! The day after i arrived (30 hours of bus..!! :o) i answer the phone hearing his sweet voice! lol he didnt forget me!

We kept talking and later that year he moved back to Argentina for university.. we were holding on but after like 2 years it was pretty hard to be that far so we started going out with people each on our side but i never stopped calling him and writting.. last year (i was 22 and him 26) after going out with a guy for almost 3 years i decided to travel to Argentina to see him again, to not wake up in 30 years and wonder if....! Cause i always had him in the back of my head.. So there i went for 2 months! Long story short (haha.. ok its already long enough..) i extended my ticket and ended up staying 3 months with him! I came back here in May and bought another ticket to go in January 2011! We got married in February after 7 years!! Yes we are pretty young but we did it! And now waiting to be together for more than 3 months!!

I can never tell my story without talking for 20 min! loll ::) cute no? ;D I cannot wait to tell that story to our kids one day!

LOL this link is GREAT :)

I met my hubby online too! We were randomly matched by the computer on Facebook, on a virtual game of pool! Chatted online for a year, went out to visit him and the rest is history! Been together for 4 years now ...just sent our visa aplication off today, so fingers crossed!

Lovely stories on here, glad Im not the only one meeting my soulmate online! :)

I met my husband when I was in university in June 2006. He was in Canada (originally planning to stay for 3 months, but ended up staying 5) on a working holiday visa. The university residence I was living in at the time allowed young international people/students to stay in the residence while they worked in Toronto during the summer. We hung out a lot and basically saw each other everyday as we lived in the same building. In August 2006, he finally asked me out and the rest, as they say, is history.

I love this thread! What a great thing to remind us all of why it's worth it!

My story is very stereotypical of Canada... Haha

My husband was playing hockey (of course) where I live in the states. We were introduced by friends, dated for 3 years while he played hockey in town and spent the summers flying back and forth to see each other. Every time I cross the border the border guards usually state 'so you fell for a hockey player huh'

Yep! And couldn't be happier ;D

Online seems to be the theme. I met my Canadian husband playing World of Warcraft.

I met my Canadian husban through WoW.

We were in the same guild for several years before we met face to face.

We were in the same guild for a few years before we started dating or met.

He started out as a casual friend but over time we got to be very close.

We started out barely able to tolerate each other, but then became casual friends and eventually became very close.

When I had some rough times he was there for me, and we started emailing each other every day.

After a while, we were IMing each other daily.

Eventually he and a friend did a road trip to see America and meet some of the guild members they spoke with on a daily basis. I was one of those people. Shortly after that we decided to admit we both felt something more and started an LDR.

We eventually realized that we had feelings for each other and started dating. Shortly after, he came to visit me and some other guildies in America.

It was always fun to explain at the border when they asked how we met. Today is the six month anniversary of our marriage.

We've now been married five months. And yes, it's fun to explain this to border officials.

Your story is close enough to mine that when I read your entry to my husband, he asked if it was the one I'd posted.

I love the way you told that. ;^)

I met my wife on YouTube. We were both listing to the same music video of the violinist, Hilary Hahn. I was just enjoying the music she was studying it because she is a violinist and was learning the piece. She commented on the video that the Russian violinist, Vengerov, plays it better. I disagreed. We starting chatting privately, and ....

I to met my hubby online, back in 1998, the old msn chat rooms, me and some other friends had made our own room and chatted everyday and occasionally we would have some random person enter the room and chat, one day hubby entered we chatted for about an hour, and this continued for about 4 days. Then i didnt see him for about a month.
one day he entered our room again and said he had spent a whole month going in an out of chat rooms looking for us as he had forgotton the name of the room. lol

We started talking again and spent the next year emailing and talking on the phone, finally we met face-to-face on feb 16th 1999 and we got married October 9th 1999. We also play world of warcraft and have been playing now for about 4 years. We still meet up every night to play while he is in Canada.

Wow it seems there's a lot of online stories! Let me add to the list :D

My husband and I met on msn. One of my friends had him in his msn list (I'm not too sure where she got his email from either) and he had added me one day. I was 13 and he was 14, and it started out just as a friendship, and eventually we both fell in love. We didn't meet face to face for 5 years! We talked about everything together, and it was hard to believe that such a strong relationship could last 5 years just over the internet. We finally met when I was 18 and he was 19. That was by far the best day of my life. I still remember him standing there waiting for me in the airport with flowers in his hands. We got married about a month and a half after I arrived, and I stayed with him in his country for a total of 6 months. I had to return to Canada to retrieve a few papers and get everything ready to apply for immigration.

Now here we are today, still waiting for the yes on the visa!

It was 1977 when I was 13 and he was 14 that we became penpals. My cousin and his best friend were penpals, and through them we becames penpals. I immigrated to Canada in 1979 when I was 15. That summer, he came on holiday for a month to visit his family in the Toronto area. We dated, and he knew that I was 'one' (he was only 16!). He had to go back because he had already joined the Navy. We wrote and we called each other. There was no internet and it was all snail mail and many costly phone calls. He tried to ask for a transfer to the Cdn. Navy and also tried to immigrate, but he wasn't old enough. We had no money to visit each other. Eventually, as time went by, we drifted apart and he got married to someone else, and I did the same a few years later. Fast forward to 2007 -- I always wondered how things had turned out for him. I googled his name a few times, but it wasn't until in 2009 that I found him. Turns out we both had had bad marriages. The first time he heard me on the phone he was surprised to hear I had a Canadian accent (it had been 22 years since we last spoke), and he later said that he knew in his heart that we would be together again. On Friday we are celebrating our 6-month anniversary and we will be celebrating it together as he arrives tomorrow for a visit :) Only 20 hours to go before I see him again. It's been a loooong winter without him. I have been really enjoying this thread, and I hope more stories are posted. They are very interesting.

I loved your story! :)

This is a very cute thread!

In 1996 I was 13 and my best friend had arranged to meet a boy in town and didnt want to go on her own, so me and a few other friends went with her. The boy we were meeting also bought some of his friends along too.
Long story short he ended up going out with my best friend, however she was in a school play and spent most of the time doing that which meant the rest of us spent time together. After about 2 weeks we both realised we liked each other.
15 yrs later, 10 yrs of marrage and 4 kids later we have decided to move to Canada so our kids can have a better life.

I met my fiancee while on vacation in Dominican Republic in March 2008. It was my second time visiting there. I was with my friend. I remember we were quite annoyed that our room was so far away from the centre of things really far down this one path. Well, thank God we were there because if we weren't then I would never have met my fiancee. The room happened to be just past the little mini golf area (which we didn't even know existed during our previous stay at the same hotel), which is where he happened to be working. Numerous times a day I would go to talk with him and hang out with him, each time getting little butterflies in my stomach. Now we're planning to get married summer 2012, I have been living in Dominican Republic since August 2009, and we have plans to start our life together and a family back in Canada.

How have I missed this topic thread....

I met my husband in Dec 2009 , he came to South Africa for my brother's wedding as they are friends, and he was the MC for their wedding. We hit it off from day one , he was in South Africa for 2 weeks and we were always together.. He went back to Toronto we kept in touch on Skype and emails everyday and then he proposed on Skype too in Aug 2010 and then we met back in our home country , (we are both Zimbabweans) Sept 2010 and had a small wedding ceremony. I guess from the time i meet him I always knew he was the one...

She and I met in a philosophy class in 2009 on theoretical philosophy; the seminar topic was epistemological relativism. She was only allowed into the seminar on a technicality, as she was supposed to attend one on Kant. The first time we spoke was when I picked up and returned the belt she had dropped on the ground and forgotten.
