I have requested my employer to provide me a reference letter, but they have told they will address the letter to a specific person and not "To whom so ever it may concern".
what do i do now?

PS: i have told them i need the letter for Higher studies as they normally dont give such letters.

in case if i dont get an employment reference letter from them, is there any alternative?

You can provide a statuary declaration from a manager/supervisor as an alternative.

However, I would suggest being honest with your employer and just explain why you need it, as in due course your employer may get contacted by CIC.
