I am currently pregnant and has been scheduled for medical exam on the 20th of august but wonders if any one of us here had x-ray while pregnant? They said that if I choose to do it, I will do so at my own risk. Also another Dr. suggest to wait till after delivery and that they will write cic concerning my situation. They said that cic will proceed with my application without waiting till after delivery and grant me PR. I wonder if this had happened to anyone and how the person handled it. I don't want to risk my pregnancy and also don't want to wait till February after my delivery to get my PR. someone pls help :P :P :P

That doctor is wrong. CIC will not grant PR without the x-ray.

Chest x-ray is at your own risk. I suggest you familiarize yourself with the possible side effects of radiation exposure on a fetus. I know people have done the x-ray while pregnant, but I wouldn't risk it. Waiting a few months more for my PR is worth the health of my child.

We had the same situation when we had to do the medicals for our work permits. The doctor's office sent a note on their communication to CIC that applicant is pregnant and the X-ray can be scheduled later. After my son was born I took my wife for X-ray.

Does CIC approve before your X-ray? I dont have an answer for that but definitely you will be given more time to do this. For the most part you should be good.

I would never risk the health by taking an X-ray!!

Good luck on both :)

Thanks guys, i got appointment today but they refused to do the x-ray so they have to inform CIC that i am pregnant and it will be done later after delivery. i wanted to do the x-ray on my own consent cos i don't want to wait longer but i couldn't get any DR. to agree with me so i guess i don't have a choice. The Dr. says that he will inform CIC and that i will be good and my application will proceed. I am not sure about this but that is what i was told. Anyhow, iam glad that my application is approved.. :) :)

Your doctor is wrong. The application will not be processed without an x-ray. Once you have delivered your baby, complete the x-ray immediately so that processing of your file can continue. Also, you will need to complete the paperwork/forms to add your new baby to the existing PR application (once your baby is born).

Most doctors advise against doing the x-ray since it can harm your unborn child. I know it's a personal choice, but I think it's far better to delay PR by a few months than risk harming your child in a way that might seriously affect them for the rest of his/her life.

just done with my medical and x-ray delayed till I deliver my baby. guess I have to wait till feb 2014 to become a permanent resident :( :( :o :o

I don't even know why this is a debate for you. Sure, becoming PR is very very important. But more so your baby ! You only need to wait until Feb to get your PR. But you are going to spend LIFE with your baby. :o

Hi ujbaby I am in the same situation as you are an i am in canada ( Baby will be born in Canada). I dont want to do Xray for sure and will delay it till Delivery...but is there any process i need to follow...means any form i need to fill etc? or the doctor who is doing the medical test his note is enough?

Also what after delivery do i need to take same IMM1017.pdf for Xray or is there a process as well for this?

if u don't intend to do the x-ray b4 delivery, the Dr. will provide u with a form that u will take to the x-ray after birth. it is called pregnancy deferral form. u will also email cic with this form explaining ur situation. The Dr. will either wait till u deliver to send all results at once or send the rest excluding xray. Hope this helps :) btw, how many weeks are u in presently??? have u got MR?

I was quite surprised to read most of the posts here which were not based on any scientific explanation but more on the irrartional fear that has been passed around.

A child is in danger only when exposed to radiations higher than 100 mGy. A chest xray exposes the baby to 1.4 mGy, well below the harmful levels. You are exposed to more harmful radiations from the sun than you will be from 1 chest xray. It also depends on the trimester- its more dangerous to do a xray in 1st trimester than the 2nd and 3rd because that is when the cells of the foetus are developing.

So its only a matter of personal choice and comfort to get a xray or not to get one. It has minimal scientific reasoning - i say minimal because if done during the 1st trimester, there could be an issue. The only reason some of the doctors dont agree is to avoid getting sued - for them its not worth the headache.
