Hi All,

I applied for a family class sponsorship in august 2009 and before that i was in Canada on work permits for a few years. I have been called to the final appointment for the permanent residence in jan 2011

One of the requirements to bring to the appointment is the current immigration status document. however in march 2010 i left to work in the US while the application was in progress - this was an Inland application.

What document can i bring to this appointment since i do not have a visitor/study/work visa anymore.

I am a US citizen so not sure what i can bring for proof in regards to this? Would this be an issue since I have not applied for any extensions or renewals for current visas?

please advise me on this, my plan is to fully return to Canada in March once my current contract with my US employer is over.

What exactly does it read the letter you received regarding the document???...

I was also asked on my landing appointment letter to bring any documents issued to me by Immigration Canada, which I did.
On my landing appointment I was never asked for them and I even tried to return them to the lady but she said she didn't need them and that I could keep them instead (as a souvenir, I guess)...
But my letter did not ask for a specific one, hence my asking you to state what does it exactly say in your letter.

Merry Xmas!.

It says:

please bring with you at the time of appointment :

valid passport or travel document

and

your current immigration status document such as work permit/study permit/visitor record and/or proof you have applied for an extension.

I am confused what to bring for the last line since I do not have any of those, just my US passport. I am not sure that when i cross the border if it is considered a visitor visa?

Usually when i drive in from Seattle they never stamp my passport or anything, which leaves me stumped on what i could bring.

thanks rob

I believe they are asking for your current canadian immigration document. Considering it's an inland application meaning you should be in Canada therefore have either a work/visitor permit. I imagine if you're returning from the states the stamp in your passport will suffice with an explanation of why you've been living in the States.

thanks for the info, but ive noticed that they never stamp my passport when i cross the border. should i ask them to ?

You're fine as that doesn't apply to you and you were never issued anything or applied for a study or work permit or visitor extensions... You did have work permits prior to your spousal application but you don't have them anymore, so don't worry about it.

Do not ask for your passport to be stamped next time you come over to Canada prior to landing as you are not supposed to leave Canada in the first place on an inland application....
