My brother did his MBBS(Bachelor's medical degree) of 4 1/2 years in India.

After that he has an year of internship which is part of course itself.
After than he worked for 6 months at some clinic here.

So all in all he has only 6 months of experience cos of which he cannot apply.
Can we include internship in experience??

IMO ... As you said internship is part of course so it should not be count as work exp.

Count exp. only after completion of education.

I suggest you refer to the definition of experience in OP6 and if it meats these conditions, then he can apply:

be full-time work, which, according to R80(7), is equivalent to at least 37.5 hours of paid work per week. Full-time work experience requirement may be met by the equivalent in part-time paid work experience, e.g. more than one part-time job held simultaneously or one or more part-time jobs held over the equivalent of one year of full-time work. Experience can be calculated by adding up the number of weeks of full-time work, i.e. 37.5 hours per week in one job or a total of at least 37.5 hours per week in more than one job, in one or more of the NOC categories. Periods of work of less than 12 months during the 10 years immediately preceding the date of the application may be added together and divided by 12 to calculate the number of years

Thanks Mezo2009,

I am not sure whether you are familiar with Indian Education system. In india we have general practitioner who generally are MBBS(its a 4 1/2 year full time bachelor degree). This is generally followed by 1 year of internship which if kind of have full time work(definitely more than 40 hrs) during which they are paid paltry amount by college/govt of india to work in govt hospitals. This 1 year is part of study.
Also I am not sure if he can apply on basis of bachelor degree(its not counted in any western country).

Hi Nano,

I'm not really aware of the Indian education, however it's great to know what you mentioned.

Well, read the below from OP6:

"Medical doctor degrees are generally first-level university credentials, in the same way that a Bachelor of Law or a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology is a first level, albeit ―professional‖ degree and should be awarded 20 points. If it is a second-level degree and if, for example, it belongs to a Faculty of Graduate Studies, 25 points may be awarded. If a bachelor‘s credential is a prerequisite to the credential, but the credential itself is still considered a first-level degree, then 22 points would be appropriate. It is important to refer to how the local authority responsible for educational institutions recognizes the credential: i.e., as a first-level or second-level or higher university credential. "

So my take on the issue is as follows: if your brother was granted the bachelor degree after the 4.5 yrs, and before the internship, then I lean towards assuming that the year he worked is an experience year.

If the degree is granted upon him finishing the intership, then, he can't claim that year as experience towards his immigration.

Hope I made some sense. Let's see what other members have to say.

Cheers

Mezo

If his experience is after the professional reistration, then it will be treated as work experience, otherwise not. One of my friend is a dentist and he had the same question. I asked the same for him with my consultant and he told me like this.

Have you figured out the answer whether internship counts as experience?
