OK so I got an email yesterday with a file number and UCI. It says:

Dear {my name},

This confirms that your application to Sponsor a Member of the Family Class has been received by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) on 2015/09/09 on behalf of the following member(s):

{My Wife's name}

Now what is that mean? I did some research and I found out that it is called AOR but what exactly is AOR? Does it mean they have just open up my file or does it mean I have approved or my file is looking good to be approved soon?

Do they generate a file number as soon as they open someone's file or do they look at it first make sure all the required documents are there and then send this email?

Any insights would be great!

Ps: I just logged in to cic website and it says "In Process" under "Sponsorship Application Status" and "Application Received" under "Permanent Residence Application Status"

Thanks

You are correct; it is your AOR email.

AOR, or Acknowledgement of Receipt, simply means that CIC has officially `acknowledged' that they now have your application in their queue. It also [usually] means that the application is deemed complete and that all required forms and signatures are in place.

That most certainly is an AOR. IT only means that hey have recieved your application. Expect them to send the Sponsor Approval (which just means the sponsor is approved to sponsor his/her family member) in a month or so. then your file will be sent to London Visa Office for eligibility of your spouse. They will then work on your spouse's eligibility, determine if your marriage is genuine and do background checks, etc. The waiting time is anywhere between 8-14 months currently.

At this point, You just need to sit back and wait for them to send you approval or request more documents very soon :)

Nope they haven't asked for any documents from me, and from the notes that I recieved they didn't indicate that they need anything from me, until now at least.

If you haven't already done so, please join the Pakistani Spousal Thread and have your timeline posted in the time-sheet so that you can have a better idea of how things are working in the London Visa Office. Also, if you will find out what documents the LVO usually asks for (usually urdu nikah naama or the remainder of the Landing fee if applicable). Here is the link:

Best of Luck and hope things get wrapped up for you smoothly and in a timely manner.
