Dear All,

I have done Bachelor of Engineering ( Mechanical ) and worked for 6 years in Infantry( Army) and 2 years in Corporate. Now my education and my work experience doesnot match at all.Presently I am working in Operations field at International Airport.I wanted to pursue a Masters course in Canada and wanted to work there after the completion of the course.Following are my queries:

a) Would like to know the suitable course and university for the same? I have come across one such course ie Masters in Emergency services Mangagement but I am not able to work out the job market for this field.

OR

b) Suggest me a course after completion of which I can find a suitable job in Canada.

c) Also Can someone suggest me the PR option after the completion of the course?

d) Is there any Co op work programme which suits my requirement?

e) Challenges to be faced as a Student in Canada.....

Please guide.

Hi,

a) Would like to know the suitable course and university for the same? I have come across one such course ie Masters in Emergency services Mangagement but I am not able to work out the job market for this field.

- Yes, it seems quite restricted in terms of Job market, if any. I do not think if it even qualifies for LMO (Labour Market Opinion) which you might need once your Post Graduate Work Permit is over.

b) Suggest me a course after completion of which I can find a suitable job in Canada.

-I believe you are a perfect candidate for the MBA degree. If interested thn appear for GMAT (with a target score of 550+),
Apart from GMAT you need,

1. Work experience of minimum 2 years
2. CV (with main focus on work experience)
3. One excellent ‘Statement of Purpose'
4. IELTS (Overall 6.5 with individual 6.0)
5. Two letter of reference/recommendation (If possible thn 3)

Keep in mind deadline for the Fall 2012 intake is around 1st Feb to 31st March.

c) Also Can someone suggest me the PR option after the completion of the course?

-Good chances only if you have a real “Canadian Work Experience”. The biggest challenge for PR is to have a ‘full time permanent job offer'. Almost everywhere you will be asked the first question about your real time Canadian work experience. Your home gained skills or qualification is definitely not transferable to Canada (except in case of Doctors/Medical specialist). In Canada only one thing work and that's NETWORKING ! If you are good with your networking, thn you are through....

d) Is there any Co op work programme which suits my requirement?

-I am always, always and always in favor of Co-op based education which provides extremely useful Canadian Work Experience (and of course few extra $), and a possible permanent job offer.

University of Victoria (Peter B. Gustavson School of Business) provides Co-op based MBA.

e) Challenges to be faced as a Student in Canada.....

-challenges ! hmm....I guess it's everywhere. Challenges are not supposed to piss you, they are supposed to help you discover who you are! Life in Canada (without a good paying job) is really not as easy as it looks on this forum.

Thank you enfield for your valuable suggestion. I have checked on some of the sites for the jobs in Emergency Management services there are some jobs but maximum are govt jobs which one can apply after getting a PR or become a citizen. This is the biggest challenge in front of me. I have come to know that there are some provinces in Canada where if you complete two years of study you get PR Is the case ? If yes then are you aware of any such province and do they have a relevant course in my field of interest? Would appreciate your guidance in this regard. Thanks once again
