dear all ,
one of my friends in india has been asked for passport and all his dependents ...he has received a form to fill name of all ...updated form

in indian passport names are under 2 parts : surname & given name
but in the form its mentioned to write in 2 parts as : surname & first name

his name is Rajat Pal Singh ..... so what he needs to write in form

First name : Rajat ; Surname : Singh

OR

First name : Rajat Pal ; Surname : Singh

Please clarify brothers

thanks

first name so Rajat, unless rajat and pal cannot be stand alone and then its rajat pal. but usually in the second case, that is hyphenated (at least in the west).

dear brother
thanks for your prompt reply .
but plz make answer it in simple words
if the name has three parts : first , middle and last name ,,, then in the updated information form
what to mention as they have asked for first and surname only .
do we need to mention first + middle name for the first name in form .....
i.e if the name is Jamshed Ali Nazim then
first name is Jamshed or is it Jamshed Ali ........the surname is Nazim ....

plz clarify

'Surname' is the 'family name' which will be commonly used for others too in his family ( except for female members in certain areas/casts... etc )

So Rajat Pal is the given name. Singh is the surname.

It seems he has not included his real Surname when applied for passport or his surname was not included in his school certificate.

For example : Mahinder singh Tandon
Tandon is the surname and Mahinder Singh is the given name.

However to your question:
Surname or family name : SINGH

Given names: Rajat Pal

wilson is right. They are not asking for first name. they are asking for given names (plural). I am looking 0008 form

He has received the 'Update Information Chart' alongwith the PPR. In this form we have 2 columns against our name/s; 'First 'Name & 'Surname'.

For his case, plz fill-it as under:
First Name: RAJAT PAL
Surname: SINGH

Regards,
Qorax.
