Does anyone have an Idea that Dish TV or Tata Sky setup box will work in Canada...

Is this a cable box or satellite? Where in Canada?

Hi Zardoz,

Just saw your timeline.

Can you share why your visa was recalled and reissued?

Regards,

Yes, they tried to apply "Condition 51 - conditional PR" even though I have been married for nearly 9 years.
I wanted it fixed, so they recalled it, fixed it and reissued it without any conditions imposed.

Geostationary satellite working over India can not throw its signal to Canada (the other side of world). The set up box meant for India will not work in Canada.

Are you being serious?

Agreed. The footprint for the satellite only covers the Indian mainland. Having done some research, I suspect that the Receiver is also locked to the specific service providers. In other words, it will make a nice doorstop in Canada but not much else.

INSAT-4A
Launched in December 2005 by the European Ariane launch vehicle, INSAT-4A is positioned at 83 degree East longitude along with INSAT-2E and INSAT-3B. It carries 12 Ku band 36 MHz bandwidth transponders employing 140 W TWTAs to provide an EIRP of 52 dBW at the edge of coverage polygon with footprint covering Indian main land and 12 C-band 36 MHz bandwidth transponders provide an EIRP of 39 dBW at the edge of coverage with expanded radiation patterns encompassing Indian geographical boundary, area beyond India in southeast and northwest regions.[7] Tata Sky, a joint venture between the TATA Group and STAR uses INSAT-4A for distributing their DTH service.

Dish TV (stylised as dishtv), is an Indian direct-broadcast satellite service provider. It is a division of Zee Network Enterprise (Essel Group Venture)... It uses MPEG-2 digital compression technology, transmitting using NSS-6 Satellite at 95.0.

But it does work in the Middle East...Dubai, Bahrain, Oman etc...

I am really confused...

There is a really good reason for that... Here is the Insat 4A ECC footprint from http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/in4a_ecc.html

And here is the India specific footprint that I quoted above from http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/in4a_india.html

And, just for completeness, here are the footprints for NSS-6 from http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/NSS-6.html

It will not work in Canada or US
