But at the same time it doesn't make sense why it never took so long before. I guess the amount of applications went up and wait times did too. Maybe also because of the negotiatons with the embargo people are afraid that the wet foot dry foot policy will be no more once the embargo gets lifted fully. The embargo is still in place. The number of Cubans fleeing Cuba by boat increased A LOT since Obama has been trying to fix relations between the two countries so it would make sense that they are making sure people aren't desperately trying to get through Canada before it's too late.

There has been a steady rise in wait times for Cuba to Canada over the last 2-3 years, but a relatively stable number of applications. I would suggest that it's more a matter of CIC actively managing personnel levels to balance regional wait times.

Well today is 6months since our application has been in Havana and not a peep.

It might sound like a silly question but how do you calculate how long it's been since your file is in Havana? Is it from the time it has been "transferred" to Havana (even if it didn't reach the office the day it's been transferred)

It. was transfered Jan 6 th notified by email and My MP has called Havana it was put in process at that time that is how I know for sure.

When the file is in Havana you get notified by email....you have to look at the bottom of the email to see the address and it should say Havana. I didn't notice that part until weeks later.

Hey everyone !
nice to see this thread is still very active , although there is has not been a lot of good news lately its nice to read and see where other people are in their application process. I also just spent a week with my wife in Guardalavaca she lives with her mother in the apartments directly across from Club Amigo Atlantico i spent the week and my birthday (july 3) there and had a great time . we got pretty much everything in the writing part of the application done . She will be going for her medicals and police background check at the begining in august and i will be going to pick up everything else i need to submit the application. I cant wait to get it done and hand it in , its giving me a headache and i just want to start the waiting process .

has anyone brought a small air condition unit to cuba as my wife doesnt have ac in her apartment i was thinking of getting her somthing small , the home depot has small ones for about $100 but i dont know how much customs will charge me when i get there..

It's 150cuc up to 8000 BTU and 200cuc between 8000 BTU and 12000 BTU. Larger ones aren't allowed.

I was thinking about the Pan Am games and the likelihood that some Cuban athletes might not return to Cuba. If that's the case I'm afraid that it will impact somehow the processing in Havana.. Any thoughts?

I really don't see this having any affect on legal applications. As it would be up to Canadian Immigration as to whether they allow them to stay. And They have to go through the process the same as any other claimant however if they get to the USA they have the wet foot dry foot policy. Which again would not affect legal applications.

Havana received my file December 29 2014
now it's July 7 2015
from September 5 to July 5 ---10 months
from December 29 to July 5 ---7 months
on July 17 my wife's medical will expire what will immegration do...
how much longer. I know I have to be patient but really. Can anyone help?

And how did everyone receive a confirmation that they are eligible to be a sponsor from Mississauga? Email? Phone call? If anyone knows that would be great

The timeline only starts once Havana has received your file, so July 29th will be 7 months and current processing times can take up to 10 months

If Havana requires a new medical exam they will contact you or your wife and ask for a new one.. My husband's police check expired in May and that is the answer they gave me

If you got a confirmation it was delivered then it was accepted by the CIC office (if you asked for signature with your package).. I got an e-mail stating i was accepted as a sponsor.. Once you're accepted they'll send the file to Havana and you'll receive a confirmation e-mail from Havana (usually takes around 1 week)
