Hi everyone, I just got my AIP two days ago and they asked me to submit proof that I am not on social assistance. Has anyone else sent something for this? what proof did you submit? for context, my work permit expired in the middle of this long waiting game so I haven't been working but I have savings and live with family members. All this info was in my initial application which is why they asked. Any info you can give about what to write to show I am self-supporting even though I'm not working would be appreciated.
same here, what did you submit in regard this request letter ?

You are all incorrect. Its for individual cases with compelling and extraordinary circumstances.
I agree with Canuck. If you look at refugee claim statistics from RPD, you will clearly see high approval rate for all unstable and war torn countries, and rarely if any refusal. This is unlike H and C which is not guaranteed and largely depend on the officer.

Social assistance isnt exactly Federal support. A lot of the programs full under provincial jurisdiction and can cover anything from health care to food… Thats why this is such a ridiculous request. There are so many programs, how can one (you) empirically prove that you are NOT on social assistance?? Ridiculous.

Social assistance is very specific and is essentially welfare not other programs.

Include proof of savings, explain that you have been living with family so have been able to reduce costs, explain that your WP expired and that is the only reason you stopped working, include proof of previous employment in Canada and the ability to financially support yourself when you had a valid WP, include proof of applying for a new WP and your plan to seek employment or any employment you have secured that you will start once the WP is approved and finally once employed after you receive your WP update your file with proof of employment details.

The LMIA requirements regarding unemployment for census metropolitan areas is a joke. As soon as there are workers that become PRs, the employers are right away contacting their immigration agencies for more TFWs. I have spoken to some TFWs at certain restaurants and they told me that they are awaiting 4 more TFWs to arrive from the philippines already instead of hiring workers that are already in Canada, regardless of status. Such a joke.

The TFW issue is another issue altogether and problematic especially in certain regions and sectors. The issue of higher unemployment rates, especially amongst younger people, is a serious issue that does need to factor into immigration. Sadly many of these recent TFWs will not have a pathway to PR either.

I have a question about stage 1 and stage 2... Is the background check done in stage 1 or stage 2? Because all the sources that I read say the background check is done in stage 2 after the officer determines the applicant is eligible and receives stage 1 positive.
However, whenever I call in, the automated system says "We are determining your eligibility" and "We are processing your background check." "We do not need your fingerprints, you do not need a medical".

This automated message is when application is assigned to officer, you will have stage 1 results soon.

Yet another account. Appreciate the week break with no new accounts. Blocked.

You think so? It was only submitted in January of this year, best interest of child and hardship if separated from family/return to country of origin. I dont see how it can be so close.

Your minor child? Do they live with you? How long have been in Canada? Visiting?

If automated phone system says we are reviewing eligibility and we do not need your fingerprint, this is standard message. Once message changes to we are processing your background check, it means application is assigned to officer and you will have stage 1 decision withtin 1-3 months usually.

Well, let us see if I am correct or not. He can order GCMS notes to confirm what I have said.
