how does this scenario sound to you? ???
getting a TRV before actually getting married... i would try do to that because the chances of receiving a TRV after marriage to a canadian are pretty small.
so i would like to get the TRV, get married afterwards and in like 1 month or so send the application for sponsorship & PR. i would just tell them that my husband "proposed" after sending the TRV application where i'll mention that i want to visit (what i actually intend to do!) and i'll also declare myself not married ?

i'm also concerned that they'll refuse me at the border even if i have a granted TRV.. i don't want to jeopardise the PR application so do you think this would work?

any answers are greatly appreciated! :D

Sure - you can certainly go ahead and try for the TRV before you get married.

Good luck.

really?! won't they suspect anything or i hope i don't have the risk of getting refused at the border.. ?

so it will be fine with the PR application afterwards.

i'm a bit of a paranoid with this whole Canada issue :p

thanks a lot for your reply! :)

There is no problem about it. Just say you're visiting friends, etc.

You can do this. My wife got her visa while she was my fiance. Not married.

There are other factors CIC keep in consideration. Your travel history. If you haven't traveled much or never traveled outside the country, it doesn't bode well as you haven't shown VO that you will respect / honour the visa stay requirements.

In my wife's case, she had a huge travel history. Trips to India, south Africa, Peru, Italy, Netherlands. It speaks volumes to CIC that you returned to your home country every time and that you were not denied in any country.

So they gave my wife the visa despite me saying in my invitation letter that she is my fiance. I never mentioned in the letter that we were going to get married in Canada. Only to say that I wanted to introduce her to my family.

It is sort of like trying to build your credit ratings. Your credit rating will be strong once you pay your bills on time, every time. Over time, banks will have no problem giving you a loan. Without any credit history, banks will have reservations about giving you a loan, without knowing if you will pay it back on time.

@ screech339

well that's good news! well i did travel but never out of the European Union - and here no passport is needed for crossing the border so i'm not sure how this helps (we only need to show our ID card): Germany, Italy, France, Hungary, Austria..

and yeah you're right, i wish i had more and significant travel history (like your wife).

thanks for the info!

EDIT: i would also like to say that i will apply for the TRV as a "single" (unmarried) person. hopefully i`ll get the TRV but later i will get married so when i want to travel to Canada and show my passport with the TRV, i will be already married. will this be an issue?

Not to worry. What happens after you get trv doesn't change the fact that you were single when you applied.
