hi everyone! I am applying student permit under SDS and wanted to ask something.. my timeline is:
Upfront Medical: February 11, 2021
Additional medical test (IGRA): March 12, 2021
Application Submitted: March 23, 2021
March 30, 2021: i got a call from the clinic where I had my upfront medical that canada called them and requested me to undergo sputum test.

my question is: if I was requested for an additional medical test, does it mean I have a big chance to get an approval since they wanted to make sure that I am clean?
thanks you!

It usually means that if they think that you could be a load on their public health infrastructure or prove to be a health risk, they might approve/reject your permit based on what the results of the sputum test are.

no i dont have tb and never had tb.. its just that i am a kidney transplant for 9 years now. my xray was clear, so i was kinda puzzled why i was required to undergo sputum test. maybe because i am immunosuppressed and a high risk to get tb.

The eligibility review of your application will not begin till your medical examination results and biometric results are uploaded and processed. Since your medical examination is not complete yet, it will take time.

Usually means that your chest x-ray wasn’t clear. Could be a result of anything from your past but in certain regions they want to rule out TB. Further tests doesn’t mean automatic approval but you didn’t get automatic refusal which you get soon after applying.

Would warn you that if your plan is to try to immigrate to Canada if you do get the study permit you may run into issues with medical inadmissibility when applying for PR. Your kidney transplant will be closer to the 15 yr mark which means you may start having more expensive problems and eventually need a new transplant. Nobody can predict the future but certainly something to consider.
