I think, this was same happened in Australia. Initially they had open competitive system ti invite all inland and outland together, but in sometime in 2018, they started preferring student and work permit,

People go to Aussie and stay. People come to Canada and leave.

I wish I was doing all these studying for my personal pleasure :) . I've got masters in Information Technology and an MBA. Now studying for a Masters' in Computer Science with Data science specialisation - all because I want a better life for myself and my children. I'm way past 40 years now and studying is more painful at this age :D:D:D
I think you will get a job in no time especially with data science background. Even at 29 I feel doing a masters tough I can't imagine doing masters at 40 but as long as you enjoy it it is great.

Trust me I get you noone wants their children to go through what we went through just for being born in 3rd world we got severely punished ,Noone deserves that. You might not be able to do everything for your kids but this will be a big leap in setting them up for success.

These people are so incredibly stupid, they think paying taxes entitles them to something extra.
To be honest, a CEC/inland get a hell lot more extra for the taxes they pay.

A. Work experience brings more points.

1. You worked on cutting edge research in ITER Tokomak UK for 3 years? 50 points with CLB9!
2. You worked as line cook in Timmy's (NoC B) for 3 years and hold CLB 7? 64 Points! Oh! You have some additional work experience outside Canada or Canadian degree? 50 more points!

B. NO Proof of funds required! No locking of funds till the end of the world and IRCC deciding on your case!

C. Job Offer brings points!
a. You have a LMIA exempt job offer from Timmy's? 50 points for Gryffindor!
b. You have a remote work job offer from Netflix? Too bad! 0 Points.

D. For Three Years After you quit your job in Canada you will be eligible for CEC! One more Channel Yay!

E. If you apply from inside, Minister MUST look into any H&C consideration you make in your application or during the course of your application!

If this is not enough for tax, I do not know what else is needed.

Well Australia for over a decade had a competitive immigration system which favoured inlanders (by giving them extra points for certain years of studies & superior English, etc). But even back then you could see how immigration was treated as a business but at least they were subtle about how Australia depends on migration to support its economy. But when the last federal election was held dumbfuck politicians decided to pander to public sentiments of "NO MORE IMMIGRANTS! WE'RE FULL". Australia has changed their business model now. Why give PR/ citizenship when you can hand out visas to desperate people who will work 60 hour weeks & pay extra taxes for years to come. Funny thing is pre-pandemic when permanent migration was at its lowest for a few years, temporary migration was at its highest, which didn't solve any of the problems that the dumbfuck politicians said it would resolve. But try telling that to any local Aussie. They'll look at you like you're talking Swahili :p

The only things I would ask for is transparency and a realistic timeline of when to expect a draw and how the IRCC plans to handle the backlog. I do not mind the wait at all as long as the IRCC keeps me updated about their timeline (including delays - which are understandable). What I like about the US is that, despite having an outdated immigration system, there is some transparency. People may disagree with the policies but you have a good estimate of the expected timeline when you file your documents. I wish it were the same with Canada.
The recent memo was very transparent, no draws till atleast June and expect 500+ score after that.

If that happens, there will be a major shortage of software devs. It's not a secret that majority of Canadians are moving to the states to make money; just to compare, a mid dev in Toronto will make 100k-130k (ignoring outliers like FAANG). The same dev in Seattle makes 160-200k USD with lower COL.

On top of that, any software engineer will be eligible to apply as NOC 2173. That NOC is written very poor. Any backend, frontend, full stack, embedded, MLOps, Data engineer is eligible for that NOC. Most people specialize in one particular area but that NOC doesn't reflect that. 2171 is clear; it's IT (hardware related). 2172 is DBAs. However, 2173 is pretty broad.
2147 here, lived in both seattle and now in TRT, COL is way lower in TRT.

Biden will be in a nursing home, true. Trump has been recharging his batteries last 2 years. I fully expect him to run because he is obsessed with being the center of attention. He feeds off it
I do hope Trump wins. There are way too many illegals now.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but as these guys most probably make minimum wage (which falls below the taxable bracket), don’t they get back most if not all of what has been deducted on their paychecks?

there is no other claim they can raise apart from that silly reason. there's nothing left.
they call out as if they were drafted to canada to pursue a study and become a citizen to serve the country.
If immigration was strict to point then all the students are meant to leave the country a day before their visa ends hehe.
