My month 1 goal was to try to find a job. Now I will keep improving and also interviewing for better pay. I have some credit cards, they are to maintain/increase credit score, not to spend money on outrageous things.

I bought a Iphone 12 for $700 cash in kijjii, will use it for next 2-3 years. I got a nice 1.5 bedroom for $1900, 5 minutes from a subway station.

I don't need to buy a house for the next 5 years. I am debt free and just investing every bits i have in boring mutual funds (bogleheads style).
Good for you.

I like Canada. Lots of good food, parks and decent people. No complaints!
I like Canada. Lots of wide roads, lots of land and provincial parks. I am seeing a lots of racist pos here, fortunate me never encountered myself except witnessed 2 incidents of racism in a public place in UK. There is a racist pos at my workplace. some coworkers had bad experience. In canada i lived in northern ontario prior to moving to London township (SW ON) and it's been an year. I hope to move to very NW of BC next.
for reference i lived in 5 countries before moving here.

I think there are way too many successful stories like Wonderbly. I guess people don't talk about it as much.

Personally - I know someone who is making $500K/year but was offered a $75K comp in 2020 - non-IT. I've other friends who make a good living. One of them was in a design leadership role in a very well know Edtech company of India, she actually was lowballed when she landed last year, but it still was $300k+ in comp. My realtor was a nobody student when they landed, they are now selling 10+ properties each day through their YT channel and own multiple other small businesses. There's a landscape designer making $250K+/yr too who landed last year in Alberta.

At the end, if we take the literal meaning of FSW, "S" is supposed to be "Skilled". Creating businesses, making career transitions, etc should be common for us. It sounds uncomfortable at the start, but failing and hustling is what leads to growth at the end. Sooner or later, we will have to go through this.
personally i know one person, my coworker, she makes 300k-500k with her Onlyfans. claims she on the top 1% :0
she has a cat and dog at home.

When you buy a condo in Canada, you have to pay maintenance fees for life and this can go upto 1200 dollars in some places, what a scam.
True. Same is the case in US. Better to buy Townhouses. Individual houses are not affordable or not worth the price tag.

It seems like there is a lot of negative news and regrets about immigrating to Canada. What about people who made it in Canada and think it is a great life choice? Can anyone share their successful & inspirational story?
Canada is not a paradise for sure. It totally depends on where you are moving from and why you are moving.

I immigrated to Canada and couldn't be happier. I had to choose between the US (3 years for GC) vs Canada (6 months) and I'm glad I chose the later.

I am in Toronto, and it isn't bad as people make it sound like. Food is great, public transportation is awesome and people are generally nice. There are also lots of parks and outdoor activities.

Sure, it is expensive to live here and groceries are unaffordable but that is the tradeoff you have to live with.

I think people expect to come to Canada, have a six figure job and buy a detached house in the first year and get disappointed. Just like marriage, gotta have low expectations and try to be happy with the current situation.
If I had to wait 3 years for my GC, I would have never moved to Canada and if I had moved, then it was a bad decision. I moved from US coz my GC would be approved when I am six feet under.

Ha ha ,I get that ,Canada I an amazing country.
The story of calgary and idiots moving from torronto and BC
Calgary's unemployment rate is sitting on 6% +.

Home affordability-really this is basic common sense if you don't have a damn job you can't afford anything unless your Dad is wealthy and ready to bank roll you.or you should be and aluminized from lambda college (Lambton lol)

Rent in calgary for a bedroom with a shared restroom is 800$ really that too the landlord picks teneants like Warren buffet picking stocks.

Companies are dropping wages because of this clowns .
One Company offered me 52 k for this skills .
Knowledge in operations
Power bi
Sql
python
DAX
Engineering degree with emphasis on statistics. i said f off .
JT is a clown ,who printed 400 billion $ in last 10 yrs ,if you think you will get a 1st world life in canada, you are an idiot,
Like me who thought when I applied for a pr .If you have a good job in your home country save yourself from this miserable country.
Forgot about bradders from lambdon college folks from a particular region ,not specifying names ,the way this guy behaves ,I have seen animals behaving better than this .so your social life will be with this guys .
Take your citizenship, it won't be worth much in the future but better to have and f off.
The gdp of Canada is supported by selling dreams ,as Mark Holte said canada owes me nothing similarly I also owe nothing that feeling is mutual.

My points
1.Keep your expectations to ground 0.
2.Buying a home is a luck a lot of factors should come together.
3.Use your common sense, you can only afford things if you have a job.Dont follow people blindly
4.You cannot work like you are in your 20s for ever that is a fact.you cannot work till death for a home.

2 circumstances I will reccomend if you are moving to canada and this is not a joke or trash talk.
1.you are sure that your quality of you life is never gonna improve for example my state in india.which is fully destroyed by commies.
2.you are facing persecution.
3.You don't want to wait for a green card and you want a better infrastructure atleast inpapers than a 3 rd world nation.

I am talking from a calgary perspective
I don't know about other places.

LOL glad to see I am not the only one questioning this. Our reasons might differ but the question remains the same.
Either way despite all the craziness going on here, I will still wager that the passport will be worth it. But I am too questioning the future worthiness of it every day I spend here.
Things will likely change very dramatically in the future though as more and more Canadians start moving out of the country.. especially the highly skilled ones.

I am glad not everybody is having a bad time here, but most people are earning close to 50k annually in this country (gdp per capita)
And for them, it is getting more painful every day. Things might be good for a few but for the majority of people, it is getting tough out there.

Sad thing is I heard up until 2014/2015, this country was great, housing was cheap, standards were high. It is when JT came in everything went to sht...

Problem is if you get laid off, you have to pack your bags in 30 days. So it's 3 years of horror life.

I agree with the positive side as well. Its human nature to keep on whining about things. I feel blessed looking at immigration trend in UK and Australia. I would imagine the plight students with the introduction of a new rule every other day making it hard to survive. The same as of Australia the moment a person fulfil all the requirements and prepare the paperwork, voila overnight rules change. No doubt this is everywhere but it is bit easy in Canada compared to others. Life and inflation is everywhere no doubt.
We keep on saying that Canada needs to be stict but we forgot the immigrants who had lost all hope from other countries to immigrate, Canada is their last hope and they achieve it. One gets PR and say that Canada is getting overcrowded, the govt should make the rules strict now for new immigrants, they should stop passing new rules for easy migration blah blah. Why do you forget that you were once at that stages as well and would have surely prayed hard for a way out to come to Canada.
I don't really agree with this. When you bring more than the country can take, you turn this country more like those countries we left? So what's the point?
Even if we bring them, if they can't rent or get a doctor, what is the point? There should be modest immigration, not running the country into the ground. Otherwise, what's the point of immigrating here even?
