The last task is to speak for 4.5 minutes, but it is not as scary as it sounds. It is expressing your own opinion on a topic.
This might seem complicated, but it is jot as scary as it sounds. My wife preferred that to roleplay B in TEF. However, it's fair enough that some people might prefer TEF in this area.
Again, the main difference is reading and particularly writing, and these are much more difficult in TEF. While listening in TCF and speaking are only a bit harder than in TEF, if at all.
If you already started preparing for TEF, then it might make sense to continue. Preparing for the specific test is crucial if you are not really good at French (at owast comfortable C1).
That being said, people who have enough time should definitely consider TCF.
TCF is not easier because it doesn't have B2 inferior. It is easier because it's an easier test.
Furthermore, to reach B2 inferior in TEF is more of an effort than to reach B2 in TCF. And B2 inferior gives you 0 bonus points because it's level 6 and not 7.
Do many people score well on TEF? Yes. It is possible. It is also true that some people find TEF more comfortable. None of this changes the fact that TCF* is simply an easier test.
*TCF Canada, of course, since that's the only version accepted.

To tell you the truth I started listening to videos that had only conversations, probably extracted from a book somewhere and than I began to listen the French presidential political debates. It was a way for me to enjoy and learn French at the same time, plus you understand the everyday language they use.
May I ask starting from when did you start to understand their talks? Many thanks!

I would say on my 10th month and upwards. By the 15th, I was understanding at least 80% of the conversation.

To be clear, you could understand individual words or sentences much much earlier, but you would struggle to understand the whole picture.
So, by the 10th I was able to comprehend the topic, some more details, different synonyms of words I already knew, etc. Like the word "Oui", which most of the times in conversations is "Ouais", and so on.
You should also watch TV shows like "American dad" or the "Simson's". It is a good way to relax and you can understand most of the narrative from the pictures so you are not lost in too complicated stories.

If the backlog is 2.7 million right now, I won't be surprised if it increased to 5 million in the coming months due to this decision by the Supreme Court. They will likely approve faster the applications that they deem trustworthy/verifiable and probably let others rot without a decision.

How badly do you want it? If you can get a job via lmia, that's the best. Otherwise study permit is okay as well but it will cost.
And Canadian schools will milk you cos they know they can. Cheaper options are all diploma mills that will harm your employment chances than help
If your fiance is in Canada, you have a high chance of having your TRV refused since they'll believe your real intent is not to visit or study for to stay with your to be spouse until your own application is resolved
I received a TRV without issues while my wife was studying in Canada. It's possible.
Getting a TRV when your spouse is a PR is very difficult because the visa officer needs proof that you will return at the end of your stay. It's easy when your spouse is also a temporary resident in Canada.
Didn't you say you are doing a PhD, I highly doubt one would fake a PhD acceptance to enter country for other purposes. I mean if you did then good for you, that's some next level @dankboi shit.
Most TRVs refused are visitors or diploma students
