Hi Diplomatru,

There are two addresses indicated on the PPR email. One is a PO Box for applicants with Canadian addresses and the other is a street address for applicants with US addresses. Both addresses are associated with CPC Ottawa -PR.

Would it be ok that I send to the street address even though I live in Canada? It will take me one day on the road.

Note: It takes FedEx one day to get to the street address. They cannot deliver to the PO Box.
It takes Canada Post Xpresspost 1 to 2 days to get to the PO Box.

I recommend Xpresspost and PO Box.

Hey Diplomatru,Hi Carpediem hope you're doing well. Good to see you still going strong on the forum. I wonder if you could help me again. We have received our visas, and plan on a short landing in July this year. The plan is to shift permanently in early 2018. I was wondering two things:

1) When does the clock start ticking for the 4 out 6 years timeline for getting citizenship? For instance, if we apply for citizenship in 2022, that would mean that we would have to be present in Canada continuously from 2018 to 2022. Is this how it works? you start working towards you residency obligation from the day of landing

2) Say if we stay this year for 2-3 months and come back, and then again in the summer of 2017 for 2-3 months before going there permanently in 2018, would these 5-6 months count towards the 4 out of 6 years for citizenship if we apply for it in 2022?that won't work. you need to comply with two requirements. 1460 days in 6 years + 183 days of physical presence in each of 4 years immediately before application.

Thanks, as always, for your help

Cheers

Hi Diplomatru,
But there is another requirement to keep your permanent residency valid. Which is mentioned by CIC as under:-
"Time spent living in Canada:When you are a permanent resident, you can live outside of Canada, but must live in Canada for at least two years in a five-year period. If you live outside of Canada for longer, you may lose your permanent resident status."
CIC further states:- "Minimum residency obligations:You must meet the residency obligation to obtain a Permanent Resident Card. If you have been a permanent resident for five (5) years or more, you must have been physically present in Canada for a minimum of 730 days within the past five (5) years. If you have been a permanent resident for less than five (5) years, you must show that you will be able to meet the minimum of 730 days of physical presence in Canada within five (5) years of the date you became a permanent resident."

What do you think that a person who doesn't live in Canada for at least 730-days in 5-year will loose his PR-status???

I was referring to Cit. rules managersonline cause this is the ultimate plan of all PR applicants. As for your query - yes, 730 days is the bare minimum to maintain PR status.

Everyone (especially seniors like Diplomatru): May I know your viewpoint on whether CIC will count the credit of pre-residence histories, e.g. multi-year studying experiences of international students, in assessing citizenship applications? I dont know politics too much, so really confused - Justin or the new gvnt will keep their election promises or not. TIA!

BTW... should I post this question on another place of this forum? ???

Time prior to landing as a PR does not count. Only time beginning from the day you become a PR:

Determine your eligibility – Citizenship
You must have been physically present in Canada as a permanent resident for at least 1,460 days during the six years immediately before the date of your application. You must also be physically present for at least 183 days during each of four calendar years that are fully or partially within the six years immediately before the date of application. These requirements do not apply to children under 18.

Thx for your sharing and time.
What I meant is all about the promise "We will give international students and temporary residents credit for time already spent in Canada" as stated on liberal's website (https://www.liberal.ca/realchange/international-students-and-temporary-residents/).
I really hope the liberal keeps this promise....

Check previous posts of diplomatru where he has talked about writing letters to local MPs and immigration minister for keeping up their promises.
