This is in continuation to my posts on how to import your personal car. This time it is about what to do after entry.
Its been a while, so this is from memory. It can vary a little. Also your scenario might be different based on your car.

First get recall clearance. (http://www.riv.ca/RecallClearance.aspx)
Send recall clearance and Form 1 to support@support.riv.ca
Then you have to pay RIV fees online (around $230 with tax). You need information from Form 1 to pay the fees.
Then you will receive an inspection form from RIV. I think this is called Form 2.
Take this to an authorized inspection center and get all modification done.
The authorized center will send the inspection report directly to RIV.
RIV will send you a certification sticker, which you have to stick in your car.
That's it, the federal import process is complete, however there are additional steps for provincial, which can vary based on the province you plan to settle in.

I have settled in BC. Since I had USA-Canada insurance I did not buy any insurance from BC beforehand.
I just got my provincial inspection done along with my federal inspection.
Then I took it to BCAA, which is an authorized agent for ICBC, for registration and insurance.
They needed form 1, form2, inspection reports and the title apart from the car itself.
Right there I got new license plates, registration, title and insurance.
They take your old license plates and title. Get a letter from them that they have collected those from you because you may have to send it to your DMV.
Once you have sent the letter to DMV, you can cancel your US insurance.

I called CIC this morning and asked about the status of my application. I got very general responses that my application is under process and it is in the normal time frame. I asked if CPC-O has finished the eligibility check, he said he has no information about that. I felt he just gave me general answers and he didn't even open my file. I kinda expected that though. I just wanted to give it a shot. Back to waiting for MR :-X

Some of the agents are really nice and helpful. Try some French, it might be a deal-braker ;)

it is just a matter of showing that you like their culture - mercí, bonjour, comment allez-vous, basic phrases! the call centre is located in Montreal, so most agents are Québécois.

Wow that's quiet a process to get the car from here (US)
how many days did it take to complete the process?
