Q. How can I know the status of my application?
A. In reality you can’t. But if you have sent your application 8 ~ 10 weeks ago, then you can email at cio-sydney-search-enquiry[at]cic.gc.ca to get the status of your application. You will have to send them your Last name, First name, Date of Birth, Country of Birth in order to get the notification. You will receive a reply by email within 20 working days.
Have been seeing lot of queries on how to contact CIC for an update.Found this usefull information.
Hope it helps others on the forum who are also eagerly waiting for an update.

How to get in touch with CIC over the phone or via email

NOTE: It is not necessary that you will get information about Federal Skilled Worker Program. Do not call them before time [8 ~ 10 weeks], they will NOT be able to help you!

Via Email

For case specific query, you need to e-mail at CIO-Sydney-Search-Enquiry[at]cic.gc.ca .

You will have to send them your Last name, First name, Date of Birth, Country of Birth with additional info like application received date at CIC in order to get the notification

Via Phone

Getting in touch on the phone:
call to below number based on your location
Inside Canada: 1-888-242 2100
Outside Canada: 1-613-944-4000

if calling to 1-613-944-4000 follow below steps:
Select 1 for English
Then 1 for foreign affair
2 for immigration
Call is being transferred to CIC
Then 1 for English
2 for status
1 for PR

If you don't have a UCI and want to obtain it :

When it asks you to enter UCI number just be on hold n let it say it 3 times then the call is automatically transferred to an agent
Agent will ask information about last name, first name, date of birth, application received date, email id etc.

If you already have a UCI and want to check the status:

In last IVR system ask you to enter your UCI
Once you enter your UCI,
If system directs you directly to agent without any announcement it's means your payment is not Encashed yet
If after entering your UCI, you listen the announcement like ” your application has received on xxx day” it's means you have been charged now wait for the PER

CIC has rejected your file? Why are they going to return it?

Seniors! One clarification required...

Somebody on this forum have mentioned that if your application is charged, it means that you have a 90 - 95 % possibility of receiving PER. How true is this information? Is there any one who has got NER after getting charged?

Thanks in advance. :)

If you have been charged then you will get your PER... not 90 to 95% but 99.99%.No NER has been reported once you have been charged.

I am not sure if you have observed but folks from 8-aug to 4-sept have received their PER in the last 15-20 days . We cannot establish a pattern with CIC so just stay positive and hang in there. The realistic timing of receiving a PER for a 4th Sept applicant is anything from now to Jan 1st week.
My timeline can be seen in my profile and I am still waiting for PER.
Hang in there buddy...good news coming soon your way.

I have applied from India for NOC 1123. My file was received on 29th of August and i was charged for fees on my Credit Card on 23rd of November but haven't got file number yet. Can somebody pls tell me how much time do they take before sending the file number or what is the next step?

Thanks in advance

I am 29-Aug too , NOC 2171 and still waiting for PER ... We should be receiving our PER anytime now. Stay positive and hang in there !

Hi All,

My CC was charged on November 11 and application was received on August 22nd, but I haven't heard back with PER email from CIC. My visa office is OTTAWA and NOC was 2171.

Can someone please guide me what's going on here.
