Canadian Health Care System
(Just a brief overview of things to expect at our new Homeland)

Is our Health Care Free in Canada?
In a non-technical sense [generally speaking], yes -it is "Free". However, technically it is indirectly charged to us vide the various forms of taxes that we pay against almost everything in Canada. But, overall it is fairly a good system, well managed and an envious one to many nations.

How the Health Care is Delivered?
Though governed under the 'Canada Health Act' & Publicly Funded, the healthcare is not Federal but a provincial matter. Canada's health care system is actually an interlocking set of 10 provincial and 3 territorial health insurance plans. Known to Canadians as "medicare," the system provides access to universal, comprehensive coverage for medically necessary hospital and physician services. These services are administered and delivered by the provincial & territorial governments, and are provided free of charge. The provincial and territorial governments fund health care services with assistance from the federal government. *More details given at the end.

What Medical Benefits we get for Free?
The medical benefits, called by any name [eg. the Medical Services Plan (MSP)-in BC] provides the following benefits:
• Medically required services provided by a physician;
• Maternity care provided by a physician or a midwife;
• Medically required eye examinations provided by an ophthalmologist or optometrist;
• Diagnostic services, including x-rays and laboratory services, when ordered by a registered physician or surgeon;
• Dental and oral surgery, when medically required to be performed in hospital;
• Orthodontic services related to severe congenital facial abnormalities;
• Complete Emergency Treatment.

Which Services are Not Covered?
The Medicare does not cover for the following:
• Over-the-Counter Drugs/Medicines;
• Prescription drugs (eg. PharmaCare http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/pharmacare/index.html);
• Services that are deemed not medically required, such as Cosmetic Surgery;
• Dental services, except as outlined under benefits;
• Routine eye examinations for persons 19 to 64 years of age;
• Eyeglasses, hearing aids, and other equipment or appliances;
• Massage therapy, naturopathy, physical therapy etc.;
• Preventive services and screening tests (eg. routine annual physical exams);
• Services of counsellors or psychologists;
• Medical examinations, certificates or tests required for:
--◦ Driving a motor vehicle
--◦ Employment
--◦ Life Insurance
--◦ School or University
--◦ Recreational and Sporting activities
--◦ Immigration purposes

How to Access the Medicare?
The health care is provided in 2 stages [generally speaking -though other complex issues are involved]. First, we head to the Family Physician, Then we may be referred for a Hospital care.

What Happens First (Primary Health Care Services)?
When Canadians need health care, they generally contact a primary health care professional, who could be a family doctor, nurse, nurse practitioner, physiotherapist, pharmacist, etc. Services provided at the first point of contact form the foundation of the health care system.

Primary health care services often include prevention and treatment of common diseases and injuries; basic emergency services; referrals to and coordination with other levels of care, such as hospital and specialist care; health promotion; primary maternity care etc.

What Happens Next (Secondary Services)?
A patient may be referred for specialized care at a hospital or at a long-term care facility. The majority of Canadian hospitals are operated by community boards of trustees, voluntary organizations or municipalities. Hospitals are paid through annual budgets negotiated with the provincial and territorial ministries of health.

*FUNDING FOR THE MEDICARE:
Each province administers a health care insurance plan for residents. These plans provide coverage from Primary medical care to Hospitalization to Emergency Response; and is available to all Canadian residents (including Permanent Residents).
· The method of paying for health care costs vary by province. In some areas, you are required to pay a monthly premium for coverage (i.e. Alberta). In other provinces, the cost is incorporated into the provincial tax system.
· Additional medical insurance for services not covered by provincial health care is also available through programs such as Blue Cross. These supplemental extended plans only cover over and above the basic coverage the provincial plans provide. (See http://www.bluecross.ca)

Apologies for writing the same thing in the forum again. Is there anyone who got his / her MR but not RPRF for a long time post MR? If its just me then obviously something is wrong. Thanks again for all the help!
Hi!

Generally speaking this is a normal condition. However is depends a lot on the VO. Some VO's send MR, RPRF and PP request at the same time, others just MR first. I suggest you read again through the email you have received if it only asks for MR then in it is only the MR required now. So no need to worry.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the prompt reply! The email surely just mentions MR. And its NDVO in my case. But since its been a month since my medicals and I believe the PR visa if and when we do get it would be valid for one year from date of medical, I am worried! Guess have no options but to wait. :(

Have given my timelines for admin to update in the file in case not done so far. Thanks.

My good wishes and prayers are always with those who r still waiting with their respective visa offices.

The road to next challenges and milestones begins.

Congratulations and best wishes for the future endeavor

Can you please tell how you sent your passport/RPRF DD and PCC to NDVO? Is it through VFS or courier service ? in return we will get the passports through VFS? Thanks in advance for the reply

Personally I think that there is no need to worry. In case you are still worried you can order GCMS notes.
Did you get the third line in ecas ?

Hi. I'm back after a long break. I had to come back eventually one day or another to this 'alma mater' of Canada FSW2013 immigration, thanks to islandbabe. Just so you know, I'm a recent grad of this thread, got my visa on Feb 4, thanks to the wonderful people here for their support and guidance.

I was away planning things ahead and looking for a job in Canada so couldn't visit forum for a long while. Now I had to break this long silence and since this matter is of grave concern, I mustn't contain it to myself. I'm not writing everything afresh, just pasting from the email I shared with my FSW2013 google group & WhatsApp group we share in India, bar a few personal details. The objective is to convey the message.

Quote below;
----------
Hi,

Just got a call from a Canadian number and talked some good two and a half minutes. The lady on the other side was Rachel and has got my contact from a business referral. She inquired if I was looking for a job to which my answer was yes. She wants me to come over for a meeting tomorrow morning. I came clear to the point that I'm in home-country right now (India) and will be arriving Toronto May 9.

I asked if the position can wait that long. She said they are ok with that and want to have a meeting first, also now that I have their number, I can save it and get back to them any time I feel. Meanwhile, I asked she can be in touch with me over email till the time I arrive in Canada just in case she needs more information from me. She said she's fine with that and that now she'll update the referee that I'm not in country till May 9.

By the time I realized I should know who that business contact was, the call came to and end with a good bye ans I was happy. Not surprisingly, there was no point asking where that meeting point is when I can't meet them before May 9.

This all happened while I was in the parking.

Got upstairs but all the while I had been thinking who that business contact would be and since I have no business lead in Canada. If you guys remember every time in the watsapp group I complained all my contacts are in US and nobody in Canada so far. In fact, I'll be flying to US come 23rd.

I fired up google and found this....
https://www.google.co.in/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=hGNFU5B3gsLyB7nngZgJ#q= (number removed)
[The number above is removed in wake of chances that I might still come from one of my sources and I'm not done with my investigation yet. But you got the idea, what I'm trying to say!]

In this endeavor I happen to find a link to check about numbers, area code wise, and if the callers from these numbers are up to something fishy.
http://areacodes.who-is-calling-me.info/

SPREAD THE MESSAGE IN CHAT GROUP AND FORUM. GIVE EVERYBODY A CHANCE TO SAFE-GUARD THEIR INTERESTS AND PROTECT THEM FROM THESE SCAMMERS !! WE ARE NO LESS A VULNERABLE FISH TO THE PREDATOR IN THE FOREIGN WATERS WHATEVER PART OF THE WORLD IT BE.

I'm in the process of finding out from my US contacts if someone did provide a reference for me. (which I now highly doubt, still to be sure!)
---------
I would suggest you guys use the second link to see if the call you get from is not from a scammer. (Of course, you would make out between a genuine call or a scam call once you get into a call or after that; like I suspected.)

Good luck!
