Hello,

Does anyone know if an applicant who has applied for a BOWP, before expiry of a valid work permit and who is under implied status after applying, will receive a formal acknowledgement for the same? My employer does not want to continue my employment after expiry of my work permit, even though I've mentioned that working under implied status is legal.

please advise. Thanks!

No - I don't believe there is an acknowledgement - you can show your employer the operational bulletin that explains implied status and when it comes into effect.

I did however, they insist on getting a formal receipt or acknowledgement for the same. :'(

There's no acknowledgement of implied status - that's why it's implied. But your employer needs to be satisfied that they are not employing you illegally, which means two things you need to do.

One, provide evidence that you applied for the BOWP before your work permit expired, which means a copy of your BOWP application, and proof that your application reached CIC before your work permit expired (courier tracking information, or whatever confirmation the online submission gives you).

Two, satisfy them that when CIC responds, you will notify them without delay. This is a bit harder to prove. Of course if you are refused by CIC for some reason, your implied status ends and you will have to resign immediately.

As it's been said there is no official acknowledgement. However, to speed things up what might help is that you can call CIC as soon as MyCIC indicates your work permit has been issued. They will give you the new work permit's number and details and you can provide that to your employer. Actually I think it even shows up as a PDF summary on MyCIC after it's issued.

Not perfect but might reduce the gap by a week or so.
