Its still possible that the PR portion can be denied. If you have provided enough quality evidenced to support that your relationship is genuine then it is just a matter of hurry up and wait.
Under the current strike conditions I would advise those still waiting to inundate your MP with emails and personal visits in an effort to pressure the government to resolve the issues with PAFSO members.

I sent emails twice (3 weeks apart) to my MP, and got almost the same answers:

"I have been in contact with CIC and your husband’s file is with an officer. In regards to the medicals, it’s the discretion of the officer if they need to be updated, which they will contact you if that is the case.

At the moment the file is still in process and if you have not heard anything within 2-3 weeks, please contact me again and I will do another update."

I guess its a generic email they're sending to whoever is asking for their assistance. Soooooooooo frustrating!!

You will have to do the remed since it would appear that his original one has expired. Its only up to the officer to initiate an extension to the original one. That would have to be approved by a doctor who would have to review the results of the original medical. What they did for me was to only request a partial remed which is a chest x-ray and a consultation with a panel physician.

That's my biggest fear. Due to the distance to panel physicians for me, getting a med required airline and cab fares. Total cost of my medical was $980. If this strike results in me having to redo it I will be one EXTREMELY unhappy applicant :(

I guess you are from OZ. Its very doubtful that they will request a remed from any visa exempt country. Especially one that has universal healthcare equivalent to ours. The countries that have to do remeds are those where conditions exist that basic healthcare needs are not readily available to the general public or where there are known ongoing issues that could spread to our population here.

I lived in OZ for 4 years back in the 80's. I really don't know why anyone would want to leave that climate for ours.

For love, what else? ;D When I met my spouse in the US and convinced him to move here, sight unseen, I always knew he could get homesick. He's given me 10 years here so it's time to return the favour. Strange thing is that he always said he was moving south to stay away from snow. Now we are headed right back to it (QC) and I am someone who feels really cold if the temperature drops below 15C. It has to be love. Or madness perhaps ;)

From the PAFSO fb page:

Citizenship and Immigration Minister (and former PAFSO member) Chris Alexander says that every student who needs a visa to Canada is getting one. This photo of an applicant outside the Canadian Embassy in Moscow seems to tell a different story. If you have something else to share with the Minister, please e-mail him at chris.alexander@parl.gc.ca or tweet him at @calxandr.

(the photo is a student holding a sign asking for the Embassy's decision on his visa).

The part I'm pointing out to all of us in the family class is highlighted. Let Chris Alexander know how important family reunification is to you!

It must be madness. Quebec is a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. They are deporting a parrot from their zoo because it can't speak French. :D

LMAO!!!

The best thing and only thing to do right now is to give up your job and go and visit your spouse's country and stay there for a while till this mess is sorted out.

Contribute and spend money in your spouse's country ..not Canada :)

Trust me , its not as difficult option as its made out to be :) ..If your spouse can come here for the rest of his/her life ..maybe you can make this sacrifice and go there for a year or so :) . You will get to know him/her better , their family better and their / your former country better :)

Better than waiting here and trying to figure out when the strike will end and putting a strain and stress on your marriage due to the separation.

I actually know people who are planning to do that :)..go there for a while , the experience and adventure will be worth it :)

If your spouse and other immigrants like students , workers etc are not welcome here or are not so important, that a petty strike is more important then so be it.
