Hi there,

My mom was given a final notice for the medical & police certificate to be submitted w/in a month or else her application may be refused. As stated in the letter, it says the forms had been sent to us on March 19 but we never receive any, and so was not aware of the need to take the medical already. The email was dated Sept. 4 and we were only able to read it on Sept. 15. So, I immediately replied explaining the situation to them. Still waiting for their response.....

My question is can my mom go directly to a designated physician w/o the medical form send by them or she really need to get it before going to the clinic?

Kind regards,

Have your mother go directly to the DMP with an appendix C.

Will that work? She's not EDE and the only IMM 1017 the DMP will have is going to be IMM 1017 EDE. My understanding is that the results of an IMM 1017 EDE are not supposed to be used for any other class of application (although from my personal experience I do know that my IMM 1017 EDE results showed up in my FSW application because CIC has tried to use the EDE results against me in my JR application challenging the FSW refusal.)

thanks for replying but to be honest, I am not familiar w/ the DMP or EDE you two were talking about =(

so, I just realize there was actually a medical form & instruction attached to the email sent to my mother, so I will probably try to book an appointment w/ a doctor ASAP, just wondering how long will the result come out after taking the medical exam? Any clue?

Kind regards,

Generally, it takes the regional medical centre 2-4 weeks to process the file once sent to them. How long before the visa office does so is a bit more difficult to predict, but she should get a copy of the form back from the doctor and you should make a copy of it for your records and send the copy from the doctor back to the visa office - that gives them everything they need to find her medical results once they have been released from Immigration Medical Service (IMS).

Interesting they sent it via e-mail. There's a unique serial number on the form normally.

DMP = "Designated Medical Practitioner". This is a doctor authorized to perform a Canadian immigration physical.
EDE = "Excessive Demand Exempt". This applies to spouses and dependents of spouses (they are "exempt from medical inadmissibility due to excessive demand.")
