My wife's sister arrived last year in the US with her 9 year old son. She was sponsored by her (& my wife's ) mom, who is a US citizen after many years in country. IF my sister in law wanted to move/immigrate (with her son) to Canada, and we agreed to sponsor this move, I assume we could make the application with them in the US (as they are permanent residents there) rather than them having to return to the Philippines? If yes, any approx time of processing to expect?

Thanks all!

You can't sponsor them.

If they wish to immigrate to Canada, your wife's sister will have to qualify to immigrate to Canada on her own through an economic stream (e.g. Federal Skilled Worker, Provincial Nomination).

Really? I thought immediate family members (brothers & sisters ...) could be sponsored. Not so?

You may sponsor one relative, related by blood or adoption, of any age if you meet all of the following conditions:

you do not have a spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner, or one of the following living relatives you could sponsor instead:
son or daughter,
parent,
grandparent,
brother or sister,
uncle, aunt,
nephew or niece.
you do not have any of the above-named relatives who is a:
Canadian citizen,
permanent resident, or
registered Indian under the Indian Act.

She can't sponsor her sister because she's still married, and both of her parents would have to be dead.

However, I'm confused. In one of your posts, you mentioned you're going to divorce your wife, but now you're referring to her as your wife, and you're trying to sponsor her relatives? Why would you do that for a woman that you're trying to divorce from?

As explained above, only in certain circumstances. Your wife doesn't meet these requirements - so not possible.

Relationship is patched up, thanks for your (& other poster's) insights re: sponsoring siblings. I don't know where I got the notion that siblings were eligible regardless. SiL will have to go through process as any other applicant if she wants to pursue the Canada option.
