File Separation

I requested to separate my file from my husband in March 2013. I called Cic today and found out it was separated effective Mar. 6, 2013 and my husband was requested for fingerprinting last Mar. 20, which means files are moving so far. As per cic, i should expect a communication from my local office (surrey) on July 2014, 22 months since we took the test on Sept. 2012.

Can anybody update my timeline on spreadsheet, pls?

Applied: july 2011
Received : august 2011
Transferred and in process in Surrey: january 2012
Test: sept 2012
Separation of file from husband: mar. 2013
Husband fingerprinting: mar. 20, 2013
Husband's oath - waiting

What did you put as for reason that why you want your file to be separated??

Hi everyone...I called cic and was told that the next step for me is to take oath and as for my wife she needs to wait to see the judge, which might take another 14 months. I am planning to request file separation but not sure exactly what to put as for reason why I would like my file to be separated??

Btw, call cic after a week or two if they received your request, just to make sure.

Hi Jelani, I just called CIC and they said they received our request for file separation and the request has been assigned to an officer and no decision has been made yet! How long do you think will take them to make a decision?! We submitted our request early last week. Thanks!

In our case, it was 3 weeks from the time I sent my request.

I also wanted to share my experience.

My application was separated from my family in April 2013 almost three months later after I sent a latter to request to separate my file from my family.
I took the test in May 2012, and then requested to separate my file in January 2013.
I called CIC and an agent told me that they're doing my background checks because the previous one was expired. I am still waiting for oath.

@jeleni, did you husband also go through the background checks again?

No more background checks for my husband after they separated the file but he was requested for fingerprinting. Per my recollection, 2-3 weeks after submission of digital fingerprints, oath letter was received.

Any updates guys?! I asked for File Separation three weeks ago and no news till the moment...I called and was told that my request is still in process!

Egyo, sorry to hear that. I think, the new rulings has been applied on your case. Let's just hope that you'll get the notice to take the test soon.

Thanks for sharing egyo. i was about to send a request for file separation because my husband got RQ'd. looks like that's not an option anymore.
