Welcome everyone! Unfortunately my husband is from Albania and requires a TRV to visit Canada. It was denied 1 year ago and would be denied again so we have to be separated through this whole process. I will be visiting in Easter. That's my salvation!

I am sorry Canadian_belle1, I wouldn't imagine to be without my partner :'(, it would be so hard. Next year it will be different. Be strong!

We finally submitted the application today. Please add me to the spreadsheet. I am being sponsored and we sent the package to CPC - Mississauga for Stage 1, my VO for stage two is Pretoria, South Africa.

Hello nozomi, congratulations for sending the application! You are closer to your target as well.
I have a question, do you know for how long are the med's test good? Do you think you will have to do them again? I am worry because I don't if they last one year or more....

Hi Stelar,

I believe the medical is valid for 12months. My wife did hers in September as we were anticipating to submit in November. However, we got delayed in completing our paperwork. My wife's will probably be asked to redo her medical given that it only has 7mths of validity left.

How much did the medical cost? Hubby and I were going to send it with our application but because we had already been delayed so long we decided to send it after. . . . but I was curious as to how much it costs to have it done.

The CIC website says it's valid for 1 year and it needs to be valid when you arrive in Canada. I read somewhere on the forum that some applicants have been asked to redo the exam while the VO extended the results for others so I'm crossing my fingers but then also bracing myself for another expensive dr. visit. Sorry, I don't have a straight answer!

I'm not allowed to post links but here's the CIC website.

I paid USD $200 from mine in Los Angeles. My intention was to spend the summer of last year and send in the application by fall, but we also got delayed with the amount of supporting documents that we had to collect (photos from old hard drives, receipts in old file cabinet, emails from many many years ago, etc). The we had to redo some of the forms because they had been updated in the meantime etc etc. I'm just glad that the prepping time is over.

I do not exactly remember, but I think it was around 200$ as nozomi said. I guess also depends where you do it.
I think in my case is going to be tight, I hope that I have the PR before that....

Other February people! I guess this is the place for me :) I'm the Canadian in this situation, married to an American. We're only a 4.5 hour drive apart so we see each other every weekend, but dammit it's just not the same as living with the person you love! That border ruins everything.

As per my tracking with Purolator, my husband's app was received yesterday, the 18th, in Mississauga. Our visa office will be Ottawa. It was 7 pounds and 9 months of my life doing that thing...I feel like I just gave birth. I've been lurking this forum for almost a year learning everything I can about the process. I think like most of us we could probably go into the Immigration consulting business!

Anyway, it's nice to finally be able to say we have a timeline for a spreadsheet :)

Good luck Marla! I wish you a quick processing time. Yes, this whole process of preparing the application is so draining.

Hearing from other people that are any distance away and not living with their spouse makes me extremely thankful for my situation - I'm in British Columbia with my husband and moved up here from Virginia last July.
I obviously cant work or go to school - so I don't have much of a life but it is wonderful and such a blessing to be able to see my husband every day and go to sleep together at night.

Wishing you a speedy process!

Hi Steler,

My medicals were done on the 7th January 2014. Please could you add that to the spreadsheet.

Thanks,

Yes, I look at people who have to save for plane tickets a few times a year and think at least that's not us. No work or school is a small price to pay to live together. Waking up next to your spouse in the morning is such a simple thing that means so much that regular couples seem to take for granted. It's always bittersweet on a Sunday for us - at least we had those weekend mornings but we know one of us has to leave soon to drive back home. We've been doing that for two years or so.

I wish we could do what you do. We considered the six month visiting limit, but he has two children that have an unreliable mother (to put it nicely) so he takes care of them full time and can't leave them until they can land with him. So we make the best of it. Lots of driving, but it could be worse!

Fingers crossed for both of us, Miss M x
