In the GCKey account click how you want to come to Canada. On the next page, click for work, Less than 6 months, and then you'll find Refugee after that follow the steps. There are a lot of questions about being eligible for the work permit. Answer all the questions (All are yes/No). Finally, you need to upload your previous work permit copy, passport copy, and form imm5710e. It's downloadable and fillable. Complete and upload the form. Then submit.
1. We go to the GCKey Portal
2. Go to the bottom page > Start an application > and click on "Apply to come to Canada"
3. In my case, no personal reference code, click on "visitor, study or work permit"
4. For questions: What would you like to do in Canada > Select Work > How long would you like to stay in Canada > Select Temporary less than 6 months, then answer all other questions
5. Not a US PR (most of us are not)
6. Find out if you are eligible to apply > Click on "Refugee Claimant" then Next button
7. Then select the situation that applies to you -- e.g. refugee claim in progress or accepted refugee or other situations
8. Then answer all other questions page by page
9. When asked if you have medical exam performed by IRCC authorized doctors in the past 12 months, click No, if you haven't had it (in my case I only did the medical exam paid by IRCC when making the refugee claim and is more than 12 months ago)
10. Then answer all other questions, and it will come to the page listing all your answers and then Next
11. You will see what documents you need to submit for a work permit extension: there's no medical exam required and no fee to be paid.

No, you do not need any new medical to renew if you are not working in health care and child care.
No, you do not need a new personal photo. I used my 8 months old photo. I think, it's better not to upload a too old photo.

OK, so you do not need any new medical so you can leave the part where the medical is and criminal records
so I’m a little bit confused. I’m in the part where they say supporting documents where you have police certificate Passport proof of upfront medical exam and digital photo I did my medicals when I submitted my refugee ClemenI did my medicals when I submitted my refugee claim
you should not be asked for criminal record while extending your work permit as a protected person. You wont be able to submit your application if all required documents are not attached.
So far, I remember, only Imm5710e, Passport copy, and digital photos are required documents. All others are optional, unless your situation is different.
Also, if you choose to work in healthcare or teaching, you need medical. I always selected NO to these options. I renewed my WP twice, and neither time did I require medical or any extra documents.
