hi guys i hope anyone reading this site can give me some much needed advice im from the uk and i extended my stay in canada to be with my canadian partner we are currently living together and have been together a full year as common law in december im wishing to extend my stay again as we do wish to marry can i still put on my extended stay form the reason for my extention is to explore my relationship with my partner any advice on this subject would be very gratefull thanks for taking the time to read my topic :)

You can certainly do so, but CIC may not allow you to stay longer.

Once you have lived together for one year, your partner can sponsor you for permanent residency. With an application for PR in place, you are likely to be able to obtain an extension of visitor status while the application is processed.

Further, since you are from the UK, you have the luck of being able to choose processing your application through the London Visa Office - one of the very fastest in the world. You could have permanent residency in 6-8 months after you file.

Note that you don't need to get married for your partner to sponsor you - you just have to have lived together for a year (and be able to document this to the satisfaction of CIC).

Good luck!

If the PR application is not already in process, they are more likely than not to refuse your extension request. Perhaps others have other experience here, but my readings have been that people who apply BEFORE their application is filed are routinely refused, while those who apply AFTER are routinely granted.

Good luck!

hi i also have read other sites where ppl have extended there stay and have been granted based on the fact that they are working on ther PR as i am if i could apply for common law i would but as i stated we have not been living together for a full year so we cant take that route yet

One thing that might help is to pay the application fee and send along a copy of the receipt. That shows them you are serious.

In the end, it all depends upon the officer who reviews your application.

Good luck!
