Extend work permit withou LMO

Hi all,

I have been working at my company for Since Dec 28 till present and my work permit will be expired in October 27. Hower my employer doesnt want to aply LMO for me.
By the time my work permit epired I will have 10months skill work experience.
I have been saw post said that I can submit the appliation to extend work permit anyway...TO BUY the time. cause I can still working as implied status after WP expired.

I sort of 2 months to have 1 year work experience.

My questions is: How long does it take for the application to be process? so that I know how much time can I still work?

Seniors help please.

If your current employer can't be bothered to apply for an LMO on your behalf, you need to find a new employer.
If your permit is valid until Oct 27, you have plenty of time to find a new employer.

This is an important question for many people and I wish it had gotten a more comprehensive answer.
This question concerns how to "bridge" time so that one has the uninterrupted 12 months full time work in order to qualify for the Permanent Residency.
It is a very serious matter - I know, because my family's Permanent Residency application has been held up for years over this simple detail of what constitutes the 12 months. Can one have a gap? What if unemployed for say 3 weeks out of 52weeks?
What I have learned is that there are specific ways in which this requirement can be fulfilled, i.e., you do not have to record the hours week by week, but can add them all together as in whatever it turns out to be: 52 weeks in a year TIMES 37.5 hrs = xxxx hours.
I am not an expert, but this is MY understanding (again, not professional) of the way to frame the question to an immigration specialist.
The question is HOW to calculate the hours, in order to get the PR application in process.
Re: the LMO: My understanding is that it is not a matter of the "employer not being bothered" but rather the issue that
there are very few employers who "will be bothered", and so it is not a simple matter to "find an employer who will be bothered."
My husband has searched for such an employer for a few years now (he had to beg to get current employer to
file the LMO paperwork, and he also had to pay all the fees - and the job is minimum wage! This for an advanced degree graduate of Canadian University, and native English speaker!)
It is not so easy. If anyone knows differently, for example if one knows the professions for which it is "easy" to get the LMO, please post those ideas.
I know my husband would love to change jobs (our permanent residency paperwork is held up) but he has to stay where he is due to the LMO problem.
I hope this has contributed, and also that it might open the question to further constructive and creative ideas. best, delphinium

I believe the original question got a terse response because it wasn't a viable strategy to get PR and he/she should pursue a more realistic path.

Work done during implied status does accrue toward the 12 months you need to apply for permanent residency. This might buy you an extra 1-2 months to work, and if you're close enough to the 12 months this may get you over the line. However, if you've gained implied status by filing a work permit application you know is going to fail, there's the matter of how do you stay in Canada while the PR application is being processed.

The 12 months' work experience does not have to be "uninterrupted", it just has to accrue within the three years before you file for permanent residence. Their threshold for full-time work is 30 hours per week. If you held a full-time job for 52 weeks, this is enough. Otherwise, your work needs to add up to 1650 1560 hours (52 weeks x 30 hours), without counting more than 30 hours per week.

My story:
Got to point of thinking we had enough hours. CEC class.
Last minute found out the hours were not acceptable.
MP's office had mis-informed us re: how to add up PT work
hours.
Again, yes, we had checked w/CIC - but MP office gave us incorrect info.
Moral: ALWAYS refer to the CIC info and read it twice if not 10 times over!

Though you will accrue 12 months experience by being in implied status but will your employer give you an appropriate experience certificate with your skillsets mentioned? (I had a tough time getting this letter, had to wait for 3 months as they cited "no policy" to give the certificate :mad:)

If your employer is not interested to do LMO, what is the guarantee that he will give you work for 2 more months even if you wish to stay and do the WP application on your own?

If you need to quit and look for another employer, you will have problems as you dont have OWP.

Please think and discuss with your employer for a "win - win" situation.

Very good point! And I think that a conversation with your employer about your intentions and their willingness to assist is a good idea. At least you will know where you stand and can plan better.

If they are not willing to SPONSOR (go through the process of obtaining LMO or providing you other support)...use language that is more aligned with CONFIRMING employment, rather than SUPPORTING your application. Explain that they have no involvement, other than providing you with the letter of confirmation. This application is on your own behalf and this is required by CIC (you can show the checklist and provide for reference).
