I have an approved eTA and am visiting Canada at the moment. I was looking up my eTA status. It says:
A final decision has been made.
"Approved"
Expiry date: XX/XX/XX

But the last row is terrifying. It shows:
Following an assessment of your file, it has been determined that you no longer meet the requirements for an eTA. As a result, your eTA has been cancelled.
Your file is now closed. Should you wish to reapply for an eTA, we encourage you to do so only once you have addressed the reason(s) for the cancellation of your application. At that time, you may submit an application at www.canada.ca/eTA.

You are no longer considered to hold a valid eTA. As such, you should not plan or undertake any travel to Canada.

The only email I have about eTA is approval, and I did not receive any email saying such cancellation. I have no idea what this is about. Is this an error??????? What to do about it? Hope it is an error. I saw some other posts but no results were posted afterward. Thanks!

It's not entirely uncommon for an eTA to be canceled. There can be a variety of reasons - some more serious than others. This includes the applicant getting a new passport, IRCC discovering a criminal issues that wasn't declared or IRCC discovering the applicant has a previous visa refusal (to Canada or another country) that wasn't declared. Also, if the applicant previously traveled on the eTA and IRCC feels they somehow abused the privilege - that can also be a cause. Any chance any of these could apply to you?

I don't have these events. I visited Canada on eTA and was traveling between Canada and the USA (I was living in the United States). Each visit to Canada this year was around a few days, except this current one, which I am here on vacation for about a month.

I do have a work permit coming up, which I was hoping to activate afterward when I leave Canada and reenter.

These are the only two things I can think of right now... Anything that ring the bells? What to do with such a situation as I am already traveling in Canada at the moment?

If you are currently in Canada, the cancellation of the ETA doesn't mean you have lost status. You were granted status when you entered, and unless the officer specifically gave you a shorter entry, you have status for six months from the date of entry.

The issue will be when you leave and try and re-enter. If you have a valid work permit, then you can potentially flagpole without the ETA, but I would be a little careful. You have no idea why your ETA was cancelled? Did anything happen at US immigration? Any criminal charges, arrest, DUI, anything like that?

Or maybe you were traveling so frequently that it became obvious that you aren't a tourist. Were you working/in the process of getting a job?

If your ETA was cancelled for something serious, then flagpoling may be a bad idea. You need to understand why they cancelled your ETA and then think of next steps depending on that.

Thanks for the response. I do not have these things happening as I am just visiting as a tourist.

I just found out that the work permit comes with a new eTA. That could be the reason. I thought I only had the old eTA. Maybe the new eTA is the reason why the old eTA was cancelled. Just that the new eTA cannot be found by checking online. Maybe it is because the new eTA was assigned, instead of being applied online?

Oh you have already received the work permit? Then yes, that's probably what happened. You should have no issue reentering. You cannot check the status of this ETA online since you didn't apply for it.
