eTA for layover in 12 hours

Am I screwed? I am a British citizen, flying though Canada for a layover before Asia. My flight is in less than 12 hours. Check in opened on the app and only on the app did it tell me I need an eTA for this layover. I applied an hour ago and have not heard anything back, not even a confirmation email. My payment did go through. Has anyone else been in this situation where you were applying last minute?
What are my best options?

Usually it is within a few minutes or hours. Apply again. Do you have any criminal record? Are you born in UK? If don't get answer within 72 hours there are forms to fill but has gone to a manual review.
