hi guys,

need a bit of advice.

myself and my partner are due to travel to Canada on the 15th of April. We booked our flights months before the new law came in and we weren't told about this new visa law until roughly 3 days before it kicked in. We both applied for the visa, mine came through fine, his did not.

cic have asked for additional information regarding his criminal convictions which we supplied by using the My gckey login. The document status is showing that it has been read but we have not had a response.

can anyone tell me if they have had the same request or how long it took after giving the required documents that they had a response from cic?

Thanks in advance

ETA is so new that it's unfortunately quite likely you won't get an answer from anyone here (not enough experiences yet).

What's the nature of his conviction? When did it happen and when did he complete any penalty / pay any associated fine?

Hi,

his last conviction was in 2010 (now spent not sure if the Rehabilitation Act applies in Canada) he was fined £300 with no sentence.

Also has a previous conviction back in 2006 with a suspended sentence of 18 months

Thanks

Based on the information you have provided, it does sound like he may have to apply for rehabilitation before being allowed to enter Canada. You should prepare yourself for the possibility that your trip won't be possible (or that you will have to go on your own). My guess is that it's taking time to process his ETA because they are determining if he is inadmissible. If he is inadmissible, the next step will be to apply for rehabilitation.

Thank you

do you know roughly how long this could take? or how long it has taken with other visa types?

I am able to change the flights but don't want to pay extra to be told he cant enter Canada anyway.

If they end up telling him he needs to go through the rehabilitation process, I would cancel your flights. Processing times vary widely - it can easily take several months.

Hi

Have you heard back from them yet.

Rehabilitation takes about 5-6 months if requested.

Hi there!

Can I ask what happened with your partner's ETA application. My partner daughter and I are supposed to be flying July 13th 201. we booked flights in December 2015, unaware of need for ETA. We applied in April 21st 2016 and sent police certificate straight away and we have not had a decision yet. I keep generating case specific enquiries, but the replies keep coming back saying "in progress".

My Husband rehab/TRP took 3 years..and we applied for PR 1.5 years before it expired but it took 21 months for the PR/Rehab were approved..I would like to know how things turned out....
