For how long do they normally give the visa for a family member (not parent)? On average?

The single entry is 6 months?
Again depends. 6 months is the max a person can stay as a visitor if CBSA doesn’t stamp passport upon entry. CBSA determines how long a person can stay. What does the approved TRV state?

We just received the approval email. It just says that the passport must be submitted within 30 days to the Visa centre. No other info.

Length of stay is often dependent on proof of ties to your home country(job, home, etc.), their savings, etc.
Thank you. My question was asked wrongly, sorry. What I wanted to know, was the validity. They can’t stay more than 2 weeks here, I just wanted to know if the visa will be for 6 months Valid for example, so they have to come until May, or the validity will be longer and they can come after. That’s what I wanted to know. Sorry for the confusion.

Most are given a 10 year visa and some are given a single entry visa. You will know when you get your passport back. A 10 year visa doesn’t let you stay that long. When you enter, CBSA determines your length of stay up to 6 months. You will have a return ticket to show that you are leaving.
