Please let me know if i need to specify London as immigration office or Abu-Dhabi , Also what status you have given for Country of residence for you and your family .

For me, the application was to be submitted to ADVO and I'd mentioned my country of residence as Kuwait.

This is a very common problem with Indian passports. Better to get this fixed now before applying, or if you are in a hurry to apply, you can go ahead as is and mention the family name as you would normally do and then get it fixed before you submit for stamping. This was the case with my wife's passport. We realised this problem only when they asked for PP submission.

It was CAD$ draft, though I used Standard Chartered Bank.

45 days are fine. But I am really worried if it takes a year??? Was it true or she just exaggerated it?

SCB is a reputed MNC bank - the one year scenario is highly unlikely. Don't worry.

If are an Indian you can select New delhi or London. For each country specific visa office is not identified. Abu dhabi is not processing Immgration appl.

Okay this is good then, the amount is already credited to your account, you just can't access it for 30 days (this time will decrease as you build history with the bank).

If you really need the money, you can request the bank manger to remove the hold (some managers are more accommodating then others).

Not sure why the bank teller gave you wrong information earlier.

I hope that the hold will be removed after 30 days and it would not continue after that for unlimited time...

Well, it was not the teller, who gave me that info. It was actually the bank manager, who came and informed me... So, you know, cant expect from the same manager to remove the hold...

Dear All,

I landed in Calgary and took DD (from Standard Chartered Bank) as my funds to Canada. When I presented that DD to my bank here, the bank manager told me that it would take at least 30 days to verify the instrument. She further told that she has seen that in some cases it took over a year for the DD to get verified. So, there is no maximum time limit for it.

Do you guys have any such experience?

It takes 45 days to get DD from Pakistan to get verified.
Please request your father to take copy of this to SCB , they will send mail to their Newyork office , and will request them to send verification of the same to your bak in Canada.

Your father must have all necessary information about your bank account in Canada ie Bank Name , Your Account Number , SWIFT Code / Sort Code Etc

Please request your father to take copy of this to SCB , they will send mail to their Newyork office , and will request them to send verification of the same to your bak in Canada.

Your father must have all necessary information about your bank account in Canada ie Bank Name , Your Account Number , SWIFT Code / Sort Code Etc

Visit the service Center in Al Khaleej Center and tell them you want a new passport with separate names. They will do the needful. Treat this like an application for new passport in terms of forms and photos. Copies of both parents pp will be required and one of you might be required to submit your passport with the application.

I had initially quoted Abu Dhabi, and they sent my application back saying I had to choose London. I am an Indian citizen based in Dubai.

From information provided earlier, the DD is not drawn on SCB, but rather RBC Canada. Strange as SCB has presence in Canada as well (very small footprint though).

I know you are a big fan of SCB, however from all the feedback I am getting from landed immigrants, it is only those who have gotten their DDs made from SCB Pakistan (only Pakistan, especially Islamabad), who have to chase people to get their own money transferred to their Canadian accounts, plus they really discourage people from getting C$ DD. As a well-wisher I am advising you not to bring your DD from them. Get it from Al-Falah instead.

How easy is it is to get USA visit visa from Canada for newly migrant... I have relatives in Michigan ... if I want to visit them after Landing in Toronto... will the USA visit visa process be simple or risky from toronto.. or is it better to apply from Dubai for USA visa before landing?
