What do you mean by surname?

Your surname is your family name. It is sometimes called your “last name.” If your name is spelled differently on your official documents, please write your name as shown in your passport. When filling out applications, type your surname as it appears on your passport, travel or identity document or any letters you got from the visa office or case processing centre where you sent your application (even if the name is misspelled). Do not use initials.

If you do not have a surname on your passport, travel or identity document, enter all your given name(s) in the surname field, write “not applicable” or “N/A” in the given name field.

My son Vignesh Krishnamurthy who is nineteen years of age has been studying at the University of Toronto in the School of Engineering & applied sciences since September 2012. He is currently in Dubai spending his summer break with us.

My question is regarding his "Criminal Record Check" for Canada. Would he be needing a police certificate from Canada?

The website is quite ambiguous about it. Please see link. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/north-america/canada.asp. It says it is required only in certain cases. Could any one of you seniors please let me know if my son should apply for one?

A quick response would be much appreciated.

Who needs a police certificate?

In general, you and everyone in your family who is 18 years of age or over need to obtain a police certificate. You must obtain a police certificate from each country or territory where you have lived for six consecutive months or longer since reaching the age of 18.

I have a query as m applying myself i need the answer for it urgently. Me,my husband and my daughter r having surname blank in pp . Nw the problem is wht shud i write in app form as it is not validating if i dont write under surname . And when Iam writing not applicable it is showing "not applicable.xyz(given name) what shud i do??? Now as m applying under fswp .

u can split the name as given and surname , how is ur education records,DL or marriage certificate?

in one word Toronto is a nightmare , its v hard even to get a survival job coz ur competing with the guys who are born and raised here.

it depends upon 2 things 1, country of Residence and 2 when u have applied

For UAE if applied before Dec 1st 2010 u will be called for selection interview in 45-90 days

if applied after Dec 2010 , guys who applied until Oct 2011 are called for selection interview, if not send them email at the earliest

Hi Biju,

Please note that I had applied in September 2010 and subsequently went to Montreal for an interview which
was passes successfully, then paid the money for investment, got my CSQ and then re-submitted all documents
to CIO and got my file no. on 19th April 2013.

My question is after getting the file no. then how long do we have to still wait under the investor category?
Do you have any idea and if yes then please assist.
