Dear Seniors,

I noticed my friend PPR request ,Passport Specification Heading , Surname is required ... So its mean ...without Surname they will not grant the visa, please clarify.

Thanks
Gisha26.

Not sure...

I heard this from a couple of people and I split my name to first name and surname - That should not be a reason for rejection :)

Yes RTA letter expiry date is 2 months only but good news is that TEST DRIVE accepts this letter for up to 6 months. So even if your RTA letter expires in 2 mo Canadian driving authorities accept it till 6 months. When I came to know this, my husband got a rent-a car (for CAD$23 per day incl taxes from Enterprise) and driving!

Another point is that, your Dubai license is valid here in Ontario for 60 days; Alberta90 days - so when you come here, do not rush for driving license, drive any rent a car for 60 days (keep practice, as for G2 or G license you need to drive on highways 401, 407, Don Valley etc, at least 5 times with 15 km each visit becoz it would be cheaper than getting with driving school or instructor; CAD$30 per class + car cost for the day of test which is around CAD$90-120).

Another drawback is that, moment you get yourself register with TESTDRIVE, your Dubai license will no longer be valid, so you have to drive car as a G1 driver, means someone with G license shall sit with you and no passenger at back seats. So don't rush for driving license, enjoy your Dubai license for 60 or 90 days based on province you land.

@NN74,Coolguy and seniors kindly advise me

my name at driving license is with father name (my name father name)
not like this (my name S/o father name )
where as in passport it is mentioned name separate where as father name separate

whether is acceptable or wt shd i do kindly guide
saleem

Honestly you cant do anything in Dubai with RTA team! They may change (remove ur father name) but will charge you for new license. That's what RTA Qusais Br team had told me!

But that's not an issue - your name mentioned in passport is your valid name. I also have Dubai license and it says my husband name too but here in Toronto with TESTDRIVE that's not an issue!

Thanks for the info. But is it fine to go without taking driving classes? I mean... first, is it allowed? second, shall we get enough knowledge by driving rent-a-car to go for test?

If you hold a valid Dubai license and having more than 24 months driving experience in UAE then why are you worried in Canada - both are left hand driving countries - and very less difference! Plus Govt. of Ontario privileged you to drive in their state, so drive 60 days peacefully and prepare for license. Traffic here is more organized than Dubai, so you know what I mean!

Actually, it seems to be a very good suggestion... it will save money as well as give you some liberty to move around...

but keep in mind, once you get your G1 License, then you can not drive on international license, you have to follow all the restriction and regulation which are for G1 license holders.

Where can I find the details of various licenses and rules relating to those? Can you please share any good links?

I got this information from Drive test center and my driving instructor.

All other things about driving in Ontario are mentioned in Ontario Drivers Handbook which can be accessed at, which I am sure you must be knowing http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/driver/handbook/

Did not know about that link... :)

Thanks for sharing. I shall go through that in detail...
