Hi all,i have a question about Drink Driving Conviction,I was looking to get a garda clearance cert to provide to the canadian embassy for a working holiday visa, but back in 2008 i was convicted of drink driving so now i have a conviction on my record even thought i wasnt driving the car i was sitting in it with the keys in the iginition, and it shows up on my garda clearance cert,I am A qualified plumber and cannot find any work here,I was just wondering if there is anything that can be done to have this conviction pardoned from my record or is it to late to appeal,or is there anything that can be done to help to aquire a visa,Any information would be fantastic.Thank you so much.

How's the going shea?! If the conviction was made in Ireland, I don't think there's anything that can be done in Canada. I'm not sure of the Gardai's pardon process but have you contacted anyone at your local Garda station yet, they might be able to give you some info on the pardoning process in Ireland.

Have you ever worked in Canada before? Have you applied for the IEC Program or are you going down another route, eg: CEC/PNP.....

Read about it here - If it was your only conviction and 5 years have passed, you can apply for "rehabilitation"

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/inadmissibility/conviction.asp

Otherwise, check with CIC to see if a pardon or discharge from Ireland would be recognized in Canada -
