dont have a birth certificate

Hai,
i dont have my birth certificate but it states in the visa requirement (Appendix A check list) under Identity and civil status documents
"Birth, marriage, final divorce, annulment or separation certificates for you and
your spouse or common-law partner"
So is it mandatory to produce the birth certificate becos i dont have it or can v get an affidavit or can submit other documents like school certificate or drivers license ect...
