Divorce Certificate and Proof of Divorce

Hi

I'm legally divorced to my first husband provided proof (which was my divorce certificate from Canada) when I submitted my new spousal sponsorship application for my husband I also provided that and it was also certified by a lawyer here.... My question is, once they receive my divorce certificate is it enough for them that I am legally divorced and my next marriage which took place AFTER my divorce is legit? Also how do they verify my divorce certificate? or they don't??? and also does the local visa office which is outside Canada in my case, do they contact the superior courts here in Canada to verify or what??

any replies please....

Hi,

Your question about if CIC accepts a Canadian divorce certificate? Yes, they do. If they feel the need they will verify it, yes.
In canada you can marry the day after your divorce finalizes (a month after the judge approves and signs the order).

If you marry outside Canada, as long as it is legal where it took place, Canada (and therefore CIC) will recognize it, with the exception of polygamy of course, which isn't the question here.

Hope this helps. Try not to over-analyze too much. If they need more info, they will ask. They asked for divorce certificate and you have provided it. Nothing more to do now but to wait.
