What I did, is I printed my bills from my cellular phone operator. It has history that I sent and recieve messages overseas. It showed around 100 messages per billing period that were sent and recieved overseas. It is not a 100% proof of communication with my wife, as you can be communicating with anybody. But still, I attached it as part of my proof.
Thsi can be done if you can not retrieve the messages.

Very very unlikely to be able to retrieve any old text messages. You can as the post above says send your mobile/ cellular records in with itemised billing showing these text messages and calls made between yourselves.
