I totally agree with you. This is exactly what I did. I sent the new draft today and sent an email to OINP requesting them to return the original draft. Getting into any sort of communication with OINP at this stage will only result in a further delay in processing of applications.

I hope they dont ask for courier charges to return the DD. OR else they will send through local service ( we may never receive it than). If you want fast and prompt service send courier charges.

be prepared for the worst. if they return the DD its bonus. As MZASAM said there will be difficulties in tracking old and new DD;s and they might send wrong DD to wrong applicant. god knows what all we have to see in the process.

There isn't too much to worry. In the acknowledgement email, OINP asks the applicant for the latest address so that they can return the draft.
Even if one doesn't receive the original draft, it can be cancelled by raising a request with the bank and completing some legal formalities (notary, etc). It would take up to 15 days for money to get credited to your account. Courtesy: ICICI BANK

no it will take more than 6 months. I had a DD lost and there is a rule to wait for 6 months to see if anyone en cash it . So after 6 months they search the database and I got the money after 10 months. i went to central clearing branch and got the search done in few days or else it would have taken even more time.

The process is 15 days not the refund time.

:D well I didn't think about it. I just wanted to be done with it as soon as possible so they start processing my application.

somebody must ask what is the service they are using to send back the DD. Hope they at least send you the acknowledgement for it and update you after sending the old Dd back.

6 months from the date of the cancellation request? Wow!! That's crazy. Don't understand why the bank official told me that I would get back the money in my account in 15 days after submitting a notarized application

Just called them, a guy with a French accent replied and said he "thinks" the application is complete and still under processing, he added that I should expect AoR within FEW WEEKS! and later they ministry decision in FEW MONTHS LATER !!!!

I have sent an email giving them my address where the draft needs to be returned. Hopefully they will respond soon and provide information on how and when they will send back the draft.

In fact I tried doing this before one month. I thought of sending a new DD and i went to the bank and they explained me its not easy to get refund without the old DD.

what is different. if you dont hand over the old one it is as good as lost. just because you give affidavit they dont trust you, they will have their own search.

you didn't have to file a police report when you lost it?

Agreed! The bank official did tell me also that its a lot easier with the old draft in hand wherin it would take only 2-3 days to get back the money. Without the old draft, we would need to submit an affidavit along with the email revived from OINP and then the central branch of the bank would process the request within 15 days. Not sure if they will take only 15 days or longer.
