To anyone who has gotten a PPR from Dakar. Is it essential that the passport has 12 months validity, my hubby's has 10.
How did I miss this?

Hi guys got PPR today. I have some questions
Medical is expiring in 3 months so no need to renew it? The email didnt ask for it but only said that my wife will need her passport for her medical.
Also how long anybody know how long Dakar VO takes to issue visa once passeport is received?
Can they / do they ask for interview after PPR?

So excited.

I dont think that the passport has to have 12 months validity, please see below (from cic.gc.ca) : http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/3999Etoc.asp

"Do I need a passport or travel document?

You and your family members must have valid passports or travel documents. If any of the documents are to expire soon, you should renew them and provide copies of the new passport or travel document to the office processing your application.

Diplomatic, official, service or public affairs passports cannot be used to immigrate to Canada. You must have a valid regular or private passport when you arrive.

Note: The validity of your visa may be affected by the validity of your passport."

Congrats SeulDansMonBocal!!

I dont think you need to renew the medical as you got PPR today which means your wife might get the visa within 2 weeks or so. the only thing is the validity of the visa will be based on the expiry date of the medical or passport, please see below:(http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/3999Etoc.asp)

"How long is a permanent resident visa valid?

A permanent resident visa is issued for a period not exceeding the earliest expiry date of the following documents:

the medical results for you and your family members or
your or your family members’ passport.
Important information: Permanent resident visas cannot be extended once issued. If applicants do not use the visas within their validity period, they must re-apply for immigration to Canada. Their sponsor will have to submit a new sponsorship application and pay new processing fees."

"Can they / do they ask for interview after PPR? " usually when you got PPR , you wont have an interview

Hi diorlat,
Thanks for helping me.

Regarding the passeport validity the PPR emails says you need to make sure your passport is valid 12 months from date of PPR email. Might be visa office specific.

I have to second that, my PPR also said passport has to be valid for at least 12 months. Congratulations by the way. Also from what i've heard, it might take abbout 2 to 3 weeks to have the passport back.

It is visa office specific; good to know

I can't believe the stress I am feeling. I emailed the Dakar office and I called the number for immigration in Canada and they said that they might not reply to the email for a month. I'm considering putting my husband on the plane on Monday.

If they won't accept his passport. (Expires April 20, 2017 - they want 12 months) what do you think my chances are for an extension to the 30 day deadline?

Just tonight, but our 30 days is counting down. It will cost significant travel costs to renew the passport in Canada too (travel across the country), and with the time left on our current visas it might be better just to take care of it now. I'm worried that Dakar will take a long time to respond and it will increase the time for him getting to come to Canada.
